1794. Pair of needlework slipper fronts, the canvas grounds worked in wool and silk, the gold tent stitch ground worked in wool and silk in petit point with an armorial for Emmanuel College, Cambridge. English, probably early 20th century. £100-150

1797. Attractive Chinese folding fan, the paper leaf finely painted both sides depicting scenes from Chinese Mandarin’s courts, the many figures with painted ivory faces and hands; silk details to clothing, in various groups within terraced garden landscapes; the borders painted with flowers and good luck symbols; the ivory guards intricately carved with Chinoiserie details; the sticks finely pierced with similar decoration; brass rivet and loop with fine purple and cream silk tassels, circa 1880, probably Canton, 11in., 28cm. with its original black and gold lacquer box, the lid lined with silk painted with auspicious and other objects. Rubbing and other small damages to leaf; box carcase damaged one end; silk to inside of lid some damage. (2) £300-500

Attractive lady’s parasol, dark brown silk floral damask fringed canopy with attached silk tie with tiny ivory ‘button’ to a folding wood and carved ivory handle with curled leaf terminal; carved ivory foliate and vase shaped finial; the metal slide unmarked, English, about 1880-1900, 28in. 72cm. long. Small holes to silk; ivory button unattached. £80-100

1796. Attractive lady’s silk and carved ivory parasol, possibly Indian for the English market, second half 19th century, total length 27½in. 70 cm. Silk a little distressed. The top half of the long handle in painted wood, the lower half in finely carved ivory, joined by a metal slide; bell-shaped carved ivory finial. £80-120
1798. Three fans comprising a bone fan with painted, spangled and lace inset gauze leaf to pierced bone guards and sticks, 11in. 28cm. late 19th century; some splits to leaf; together with a plain salmon pink satin leaf fan with finely carved and pierced bone sticks and guards decorated in the Chinoiserie manner, 11½in. 29cm., late 19th century, leaf, guard and first stick damaged and broken on the left hand side; and a small bone brisé fan, much damaged. Sold as a collection with all faults not subject to return. (3) £80-100

Collection of Victorian and later fans including a white ostrich feather fan with mother of pearl guards and sticks and an ivory silk tassel, 9½in. 24cm. in an ivory paper covered Duvelleroy box with two numbers written in black ink on the base; two ivory satin leaf fans, one embroidered initials ‘CLM’ with bone guards and sticks, mother of pearl rivet and cream silk tassel, 9½in., 24cm.; the other painted with wild roses and with feather trim to the leaf, bone guards and sticks, 10in., 26cm.; another beige satin leaf painted violets one side; flowers and swags on the reverse; bone guards and sticks, 11½in. 29cm.; a large gold coloured fabric leaf fan charmingly painted with beetles, wood guards and sticks, 15in. 38cm.; black satin leaf fan embroidered flowers, black wood gilt decorated guards and sticks, 12in., 30cm.; two black wood fans, one painted black satin leaf, the other with sequins; another black painted sandalwood fan with flowers; another painted with flowers; eight assorted tourist fans; two BOAC advertising fans (probably handed out to passengers in flight) and a simulated blonde tortoiseshell brisé fan with yellow satin ribbon and mother of pearl rivet. (21) Damage to some fans. Sold as a collection with all faults not subject to return.
