1715. Turkmen man’s embroidered hat, the headpiece in partly undyed cotton and cotton printed with fine blue spots, the forehead, ear-flaps and ‘tail’ embroidered in silk in a geometric pattern. Afghanistan late 19th-early 20th century. The cotton lining to the ‘tail’ largely missing, the printed cotton lining to the ear-flaps intact. £80-100


1720. Unusual Persian child’s cradle, the hammock-like ‘bed’ of embroidered leather with central thick cotton section attached to two painted wood poles, one at either end. Fars, late 19th-early 20th century, the hammock ‘bed’ 43in. x 33in. 109cm. x 84cm.; the end poles each 38½in. 98.5cm. wide. The central thick cotton section distressed and with damage and wear. Note the amusing painting on the end poles, including human faces in a style reminiscent of Lori Bakhtiari embroidered wedding mats. £100-150

A good and attractive Turkmen duy basliq (camel neck cover), in a variety of silk and cotton squares in rhomboid formation either side of a central rectangular panel with smaller panels above and both horizontal and vertical strips; remains of tufts of animal hair in places. Afghanistan or Turkmenistan late 19th-early 20th century, overall length 70in. 178 cm., longest horizontal strip 70in. 178cm. Some of the small pieces distressed with losses although overall generally in good condition. £200-300

1718. Fine Tekke Turkmen chyrpy the blue/ black ground exquisitely and finely embroidered in red, yellow, dark brown and ivory with tulips within a dark brown leaf trellis; finely woven brocaded kelim hem and cuff edges; painted heavy linen lining; blue and black silk fringing to hem. Late 19th century.
