Lot 2059 Lot 2057
2057. Unusual rug by the Kolombi tireh of the Basseri tribe of the Khamseh Confederation, Fars, south west Persia early 20th century, 6ft.8in. x 3ft.3in. 2.03m. x 1m. This distinctive group of Basseri rugs was first described by Cyrus Parham in Masterpieces of Fars Rugs, pp. 138-9. Like most Basseri rugs, they are asymmetrically knotted and the palette is typical of Kolombi rugs. So, too, is the design; most examples seem to have patterns derived from well known urban designs such as the Mina Khani or, as here, the Herati but with an imaginative twist. £550-650
