1743. Chinese narrow embroidered panel, the blue silk damask ground finely embroidered in silk Peking knot etc. and gold metal brocade. Second half 19th century, 28in. x 3in. 71cm. x 7cm. Sewn down onto dark blue silk and mounted on wooden stretcher. £200-300

1741. Two good embroidered silk rank badges, one with a 2nd Military Rank Lion, the other with a 6th Civil Rank Lesser Egret. Both embroidered in long stitch and pekin knot, the Military Rank badge with individual motifs including bats with gold metal brocaded outlines, Both second half 19th century, each approx. 11½in. 29cm. sq., frame overall 23in. x 12in. 59cm. x 30cm. Although these badges differ in key respects, they share an overall palette and general style. It is possible they both emanate from the same workshop. Note the added silk and gold brocade edging they both share. Framed together and glazed. £300-400

1744. Chinese informal robe of blue silk damask woven with auspicious objects; the collar, front edge and hem with embroidered band in blue silk with paeonies, other flowers and butterflies; the wide sleeves with narrow sleeve bands of deep yellow silk embroidered in coloured silks with exotic butterflies and flowers; gilt metal fastenings, lined with pale blue silk, late 19th/early 20th century, wear and fraying to black silk binding on collar and edges; together with a short tunic made in a Western style from dark blue Chinese silk gauze with Chinese silk embroidered front, sleeves and back worked in polychrome silks with roundels of exotic butterflies among flowers and foliage; pale blue silk lining; seamed down the front, with label for ‘Dorothy Law, 10 West Halkin Street, Belgrave Sq. SW’. Early 20th century. The lining shattered and partly missing at the collar and armhole seams. (2) £100-200

Attractive pair of Chinese embroidered silk Civil rank badges, each with 9th Rank Paradise Flycatcher, embroidered in multi- coloured silk long stitch on dark blue satin ground, the front badge as usual in two equal pieces separated vertically. Late 19th century, each complete badge 11in. x 11½in. 28cm. x 29cm. (3) £200-300


1745. Chinese apron skirt, the red silk damask front and back panels finely embroidered with figures in a garden landscape with an exotic butterfly above the side panels of multi-coloured finely pleated damask and embroidered with sprays of flowers, within a rich purple silk border and hem embroidered butterflies and flowers, the front and back panels lined with blue silk, late 19th century. The linen waist band had been cut off and replaced with a modern blue gauze band. £200-300
