Sound Warehouse Salt Lake City, Utah Dean Magnesen, owner

I GOT STARTED WHEN: “I formed a partnership with the original founder of Sound Warehouse and entered the ‘legitimate’ liquidation business. In 2000 I bought my partner out and retired from the liquidation business in 2005. Since then my full-time job has been Sound Warehouse.”

MY BIGGEST MISTAKE WAS: “Not securing many of the superb storefront locations that were easily available to us during our ‘liquidation’ years.”

MY BEST INFLUENCES COME FROM: “My former partner in my early 20’s, R.A. Ridges (now deceased), who taught me 75 percent of ‘what to do right’ and 25 percent of ‘what not to do.’

Colin Fryer, my ex-liquidation

partner, provided positive lessons and influences that are too numerous to mention.”

IF I COULD DO IT OVER, I WOULD: “Not change a thing in my career. My life has been blessed with no regrets and I love my current job. I do know this: I never thought I’d be selling car stereos at almost 64 years old!”
