Sound of Tri-State Wilmington, Del. Mehdi Namaranian, owner
“ Sonus Car Audio
Clarksville, Tenn. Micah Williams, owner / installer
“
I GOT STARTED WHEN: “I got a shot in shops in Indiana and Kentucky after start- ing out sweeping floors. From there I worked my way up and gained recognition in the Top 100 and Top 12 Installers several times. I opened Sonus in 2008, then moved to a custom-built facility in 2011.”
MY BEST INFLUENCES COME FROM: “Larry and Sharon Penn (Mobile Solutions of Calgary) have what I envision my store to be one day. My other retail influence is Josh Landau at JML Audio. We bounce ideas back in forth. If I can get my store to that level, I’ve done my job.”
WHEN NOT IN THE SHOP, I’M: “At a hockey game. I love hockey and try to get to as many games as my schedule allows. If I’m not at the game then I’m watching it on TV.”
MY BIGGEST MISTAKE WAS: “Not being a better student of the game early on. I think things would have moved faster. Also, thinking I knew everything and not fully understanding the difference between ‘installer’ and ‘owner’ when it came to customers.”

I GOT STARTED WHEN: “A career job at a bank ended when everyone was abruptly terminated. I was forced to rethink my career path, and opened my first store in 1990.”
MY BEST INFLUENCES COME FROM: “A multitude of people. I have learned a great deal from many people that I have contact with including other retailers, manufacturer’s reps, those in the industry, and my peers.”
MY BIGGEST MISTAKE WAS: “Not owning properties for all of our locations. Sound of Tri-State owns 2 of the 4 properties it operates from. Ownership ensures permanency and longevity of the business; it also adds value to the business.”
IF I COULD DO IT OVER, I WOULD: “Not change anything in terms of the career path I chose. I go to work every day and do what I love to do. With regards to managing the business, I would have focused more on niche products other than car audio, such as window tinting.”
