The wealth of the sea
The region of Bretagne has a long economic history in agriculture and marine activities. Taking advantage of its location along the Atlantic and the Channel coasts, it has also developed a fast growing biotechnology economy in marine sciences and human health (cosmetics, nutrition and drugs). Bretagne is among the top 5 French regions in biotechnology and a leader in marine cosmetics. More than 150 private and public key players are working in Bretagne in the biotechnology sector which is supported byCapbiotek, the regional bio- booster. Innovative companies, public partners and Regional Centers for Innovation and Technology Transfer will be present at in-cosmetics. Visit them in the France pavilion.

IRB is launching a new concept in plant stem cell ingredients called Powerful Stems. Powerful Stems are the result of extensive R&D work, which set up the biotechnological HTN™ platform as an alternative source for the production of plant actives with dramatically reduced environmental impact. IRB introduces Buddleja davidii stems G™
, now
available with a standardised content of Verbascoside. Potent secondary metabolites are able to protect the skin against UVA damage, thanks to a wide spectrum of activities, including anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, photoprotective and chelating properties. Since 2011, Leontopodium alpinum stems G™ have featured a guaranteed minimum amount of leontopodic acid A, one of the natural protective substances that allow Edelweiss, a rare plant growing in the Alps, to survive its native harsh environment. Leontopodic acid A is a strong antioxidant phenylpropanoid, three times more efficient than Vitamin C, and has only recently been isolated in the plant.
