GROOT GROEN TRADE FAIR Global interest in Groot Groen 2011
Nursery trade fair GrootGroenPlus was a success in many ways. The number of stand participants increased to 286 and the number of visitors increased by 9 per cent to 7,021. Held in Zundert during early October, the fair’s main square was transformed into the ‘Green City’ which was the event’s theme for 2011. The ‘Green City’ award was a joint initiative of Plant Publicity Holland (PPH) and sector association VHG. The goal is to improve integral co- operation within the construction sector (including the green sectors) in city development projects. The Betula pendula ‘Spider Alley’ by Van Vliet New Plants BV received the silver medal and was announced the best novelty. The other silver winners were: • Berberis thungergii ‘Golden Dream’ by Boomkwekerij Peter Leenders B.V./Valkplant • B.V. Crataegus succulenta ‘Jubilee’ by Praktijkonderzoek Plant en Omgeving • Fagus Sylvatica ‘Rohan Green Weeping’ by André van Nijnatten en Zonen vof Lining Europe in style…from Kent! Ashford-based Oakover Nurseries once again drew great interest from showing at Groot-Groen. The plant fair continued to provide an opportunity for the nursery to expand and develop sales of its liners and more unusual stock into the wider European market. Commenting on this continued drive towards Europe, general manager Brian Fraser said of the 2011 event, “The show was very well attended. We received enquiries from Russian and Hungarian attendees, as well as from Dutch Nurseries, not to mention UK Nurseries. This event is becoming a premier destination for buyers around Europe. As a primary producer we feel we have to be there”. 8For more information visit
