CASH & CARRY SPECIAL Discover the

difference! Some new gems were unveiled recently at Wyevale East Nurseries. In the range of new trees, Broussonetia Papyrifera (known as the Paper Mulberry) is a small to medium deciduous tree with lobed green leaves native to Eastern Asia, and with small red, edible fruits produced in summer. In the shrub category, Camellia sasanqua ‘Paradise Venessa’ is a tall growing evergreen, up to 6m high and 3m wide. It is a new variety that has been bred in Australia with large scented semi-double flowers and pink buds that open white with pink edges. Mahonia ‘Cabaret’ (pictured) is a compact evergreen with unusual racemes of red/orange flower buds, which open to yellow flowers. It flowers in late summer to autumn slightly before other varieties. 8For more information call 01332 882315 or visit www.wyevale-east.co.uk

At the latest meeting of the HTA Cash and Carry group, held at Joseph Rochford Gardens, members reported that trading conditions have been good since February, with a slight dip in June. Due to the challenging winters we have had recently, demand has shifted away from exotics towards hardier plants, with an increasing demand for herbaceous plants that offer a fashionable, colourful impact. Key outcomes from the meeting included the news that standard terms and conditions of sales have been agreed for this sector and can now be used by members, and that the HTA will be
