of venue operations and support, and even convenient parking.
Compared to other prominent MICE locations that have perhaps taken decades to establish themselves, Abu Dhabi's reputation in this domain has been ce- mented in a matter of years.
This is largely because the leadership recognises and fully backs the industry with an unrivalled set of incentives and solid on-ground enhancements in infra- structure. The Abu Dhabi government is firmly committed to the events industry and Abu Dhabi provides a vibrant business envi- ronment; event organisers from around the world would be well advised to capitalise on these great opportunities.
What other plans are on the agenda for the rest of 2011?
In 2011, ADNEC's thrust will be on attract- ing more corporate business, association events and public entertainment shows. There will also be a continued emphasis on exhibitions and conferences, with North America and Germany our focus markets this year.
In 2011, Capital Gate tower, which holds the Guinness record for 'the world's furthest leaning man-made tower,' will be complete. The tower, which is inter-connected with ADNEC, will feature 20,000 square metres of grade-A office space, as well as 25,000 square metres dedicated to a five-star Hyatt Hotel, branded 'Hyatt Capital Gate'. Capital Gate will significantly enhance the allure of ADNEC as a destination.
and Singapore. It's a market brimming with potential, with many economies in the region in robust health.
The appetite for new technology and innovative products is in Abu Dhabi. More importantly, this is backed by purchasing power. Also, the government's economic diversification plan means a wide variety of industry sectors are being given an impetus to grow. Event organisers recognise this potential and I am confident that this agree- ment will result in several major US-based events coming to Abu Dhabi.
Although a relatively recent addition to the international events scene, the UAE capital is an emerging destination with unrivalled scope for new exhibitions and events. The increasing recognition of Abu Dhabi's role
in both regional and international affairs has provided a strong boost to the emirate's ability to attract the world's leading events. If someone is serious about business in the Middle East, Abu Dhabi is a location they cannot afford to overlook.
How challenging is it to bring in business when there are several venues to choose from in the Middle East?
Venues in the UAE are clear leaders when organisers are scoping possible event loca- tions. Decisions are rarely taken based on just the existence of a venue; factors such as best access to a target market/audience, transport links and hotels are considered. Other factors that are critical to organisers include international best practice in terms
The development of the Capital Centre 'micro-city' adjacent to the exhibition centre is ongoing. Capital Centre, which is master-planned by ADNEC, features 23 mixed-use towers comprising hotels, serviced apartments, residential and commercial buildings.
In addition, ADNEC has other exciting plans to enhance attractiveness of the venue. We hope to reveal these in the next six to 12 months. We recently completed construction
of Phase 2 of ExCeL London, but our investment in the London complex has not stopped. In 2011 we will open the 252- room Aloft London ExCeL hotel, well in time for the London 2012 Olympics. It is a point of great honour for us that ExCeL will play a significant role at the 2012 Olympic Games.
