Fishing trips should only be booked through a licensed operator, as there are many regulations in place to protect sea life.

F1 hospitality

Abu Dhabi's tourism product hit the gas and truly took off when the emirate hosted its first Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 1, 2009. Spectators from around the world converged on Abu Dhabi's Yas Island in their tens of thousands for an action-packed three-day motorsports extravaganza from October 30 to November 1.

The event offered a host of options for corporate groups looking for hospitality options. However, for those who missed out on the Grand Prix, Yas Island offers a plethora of meetings and incentives options throughout the year. Spanning 25 square kilometres and strategically located close to Abu Dhabi city and the main arterial roads to Dubai and Al Ain, Yas Island boasts world-class hotels, a marina and a Formula One track, with theme parks, golf courses and mega malls all in various stages of development, making it one of the most exhilarating tourism destinations in the region. Yas Island is being developed by Aldar Properties, the company behind the Al Raha Beach project and regenera- tion of downturn Abu Dhabi where the Central Market is situated. Central to the development is the Yas Marina Circuit, which welcomed the inaugural Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November 2009. Abu Dhabi has secured the rights to host a Grand Prix until 2016, with the 2011 race Ð the last of the season Ð scheduled for November 13. The UAE is currently one of only 16 countries licensed to hold F1 Grand Prix races.

Corporate options for the inau- gural Formula Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix were quickly signed up. Plan well in advance if you want to build a meeting or corporate incentive around the 2011 race

Thrills and spills

Ferrari World is now open, so why not break up a typical business trip by heading down to the theme park for a day of thrills and spills?

Calendar of events

Yas Marina Circuit has a busy calendar of motorsports events for 2011, so if the F1 does not fit with your schedule find out what other races are taking place throughout the year

Traditional attractions

The centre of Abu Dhabi is only a 10-minute drive away so be sure to combine the modern- day wonders of Yas Island with some of the more traditional attractions of the city

The Yas Marina circuit offered a number of motor racing world firsts when it opened in October 2009. Unique attractions include a hotel straddling the track; a solar-pow- ered VIP hospitality tower offering unsurpassed track views from 60 metres high; and fully covered, luxury grandstands capable of seating 50,000 race-goers. Bernie Ecclestone, president of Formula One, has described the Yas Marina Circuit as "one of the most exciting tracks I have ever seen," high praise from a veteran source.

From the twisting Singapore-style street sections to the Monaco-style marina, the Yas Marina Circuit serves up an array of challenges for the world's best drivers. The 5.5 kilometre-long circuit can operate as two independent, fully-functioning tracks, offering options for simultaneous events to be hosted. For corporates, there are numerous ways to get up close to all the rubber-burning action, with Yas Marina Circuit offering year-round events and hospitality options.
