Applelec brings light to Wildlife Photographer of the Year


Applelec Sign Components supplied the illuminated frames used to exhibit the winning images in this year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition at the Natural History Museum. The high profile commission was an unusual contract for the


Bradford company who are traditionally a trade supplier to the signage industry. Display systems, including those used for exhibitions, have been a growth area for Applelec following the development of a flat lighting panel (LED Light Sheet) which can be integrated into a frame.


Applelec Managing Director, Ian Drinkwater, commented:


“The success of this project has been a rewarding contract for the company and we were thrilled our illuminated frames were used to enhance the already spectacular images in this renowned competition.” As to be expected for a competition celebrating the beauty

Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year project team, explained: “Applelec Signs developed the light panels for the display system through several cycles of technical improvement. In addition to the 20-40% saving in power consumption and the LED strips lifecycle lasting approximately 100,000 hours, we also achieved an extremely slim panel that complimented the overall lightness of the exhibition design and the magnificent photographs to dramatic effect.” Now in its 46th year, The Wildlife

Fast track re-branding of Pru Healthcare by Sign 2000


Following its acquisition of Standard Life Healthcare, the award-winning health insurance provider, Pru Healthcare had to re-brand all of its buildings in the UK over the course of a single weekend. This somewhat daunting task was entrusted to Kent-based corporate signage specialist Sign 2000 which successfully completed what was described as the ‘Big Bang’ re-branding project within this very tight time frame. All of the signage, which was pre-manufactured and delivered


to each of the buildings that needed to be re-branded, included high-level LED-illuminated halo-configured main identification and low-level branding signage to the building façades as well as totem and various directional and information signs. The exterior re-branding required careful planning by the operations team, as a significant part of this element of the project required the use of specialist access equipment. The interior signage consisted of totem directional units and


assorted supporting graphics. At the Pru Healthcare head office site in Bournemouth, Sign 2000 installed digitally printed vinyl graphics to the glass atrium that extended over six floor levels. The acquisition of Standard Life Healthcare (previously the


UK’s fourth largest provider of medical insurance) will establish Pru Healthcare as a major player in the UK health protection and private medical insurance markets, with the combined resources of the two companies enabling what is arguably the most comprehensive and
