PROJECT News GDi has the X-Factor

When large format digital print specialists KGK telephoned GDi Trade Signs in September, with the question: “Can you make a large ‘X Factor’ X and deliver to 2heads, global events and exhibitions agency by the end of the month?” we could hardly say no. The lead times were very tight

but the sign was needed for the launch of the US version of the hit TV show and was shipped down to Cannes in the South of France for the launch party. Colin Pestell managing Director

of GDi said: “The whole team had a hand in producing the sign, the metal shop built the outer shell, the lighting team illuminated it and the plastics team created the face of the sign. On top of that eight people were needed to manoeuvre the sign around the workshop as it was built, due to the size of it.” The specification of the signage

itself was basically a very large built-up rim and return aluminium X at 3000mm x 1500mm x 300mm which was stove enamelled silver. The face of the sign was a built-up opal polycarbonate X which was pushed through the aluminium rimmed face. The graphics on the front was a digitally printed face supplied by KGK. To illuminate it, Sloan LED gave advice on layout and the best module for the job. A layout plan was supplied the following day, suggesting Sloan Apollo LED modules. Robert Horne supplied 125 modules with the necessary power

supplies the following day. GDi completed the construction of the X, fitted the LEDs and delivered to 2 Heads on time. Let’s hope Simon likes it. GDi Trade Signs is a specialist supplier of fabricated signage

to the trade, for more examples of the company’s work check out www.gdisigns.net
