Councillor Malcolm Pritchard. Mayor of Hyndburn. Welcome to my first ever column in the Herald. It gives me a chance each month to let Hyndburn residents know what I’ve been doing as Mayor and what events we have coming up. It’s been a very busy first few months for myself and my wife Irene. We’ve visited lots of people and organisations throughout the Borough. We’ve been to churches, bowling clubs, schools, sports events, charity nights and even a couple of 90th birthday parties. Raising money for local charities is probably the most important job for a Hyndburn Mayor and this year myself, my wife and our charity committee members are determined to work as hard as possible to raise money for our three main chosen charities which are Help for Heroes, Derian House Children’s Hospice and North West Air Ambulance. We’ve had some generous donations to kick start our fundraising, £50.00 from Royal Spice Takeaway in Oswaldtwistle, and £300 was donated by our guests on the Civic Celebration Day. We’ve also held a curry night and raised £130 from the raffle. And £50.00 was collected for us at the Kabadi games. A BIG thank you to everyone who has donated to our fund or helped with the fundraising efforts. I’m really excited about a Charity Christmas Fair we are holding in the Town Hall on Saturday 4th December. We are having stalls, a Santa’s Grotto and a professional photographer. We are still looking for stall holders so if you think your business is suitable please contact the Mayor’s Office for more details about this event. Other events we have planned for the near future are: Saturday September 18th: Race Night Fundraiser at Accrington Stanley Football Club. Tickets are £6 and include a pie supper. Saturday 16th October: Ceilidh dancing night at St Christopher’s High School with Frolikin Pete and the Fumbling Fingers Band. A really fun night for all the family. Bring your own drinks and snacks. Tickets £7.00 for adults, £4.00 for children or £18.00 for a family ticket. This includes a pie supper. This event has been kindly sponsored by Rainbow Gallery of Queen Street, Great Harwood. For any more information on our upcoming events, to buy tickets or to make a donation or even to invite the Mayor and Mayoress to an event you are holding please contact the Mayor’s secretary on the details below: Rachel Leatherbarrow, The Mayor’s Office, Hyndburn Borough Council, Scaitcliffe House, Ormerod Street, Accrington, BB5 2PJ 01254 380285 rachel.leatherbarrow@hyndburnbc.gov.uk September is already looking like a busy month for the Mayor’s office with lots of events and people to visit. If you see Irene and I at an event please feel free to say hello! Malcolm.

"I am the author of this book

and it is my personal account of the circumstances of my brother’s death in Northern Ireland. It has been written to tell my story of how his murder was carried out, how I and my family reacted and dealt with the aftermath, the post incident investigation and much much more. Though it is the story of one soldier, we must always remember the other many families who lost relatives in similar circumstances." Darren Ware. Email: danware1597@sky.com After leaving the army, Darren joined the police force and now works on the armed response unit for the Lancashire Police. He has three children and lives in Accrington.
