Otis Redding, Jr Born: Sep. 9, 1941 Died: Dec. 10, 1967 One of the most popular and critically acclaimed soul vocalist, songwriter and musician representatives of the R&B style known as Southern soul. Legendary musician Otis Redding (known as the "King of the Soul Singers") is generally regarded as the single most influential male soul artist of the 1960s. He was one of the first artists to broaden his appeal to white audiences with a raw, spontaneous style that bore a stark contrast to the smooth, sophisticated music of Motown. Some of his legendary numbers include: "Mr. Pitiful" in 1965, "Respect", "I've Been Loving You Too Long," and "A Change is Gonna Come." The song that many consider Redding's greatest, "Try A Little Tenderness," was recorded in 1967. On Dec. 10, 1967 in Lake Monona, Madison, Wisconsin, Otis Redding along with six others were killed at the peak of his career at the age of 26 in a plane crash during a storm en route to a concert in Madison. Four months after his death, Redding would achieve his first American number one album (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" (1967) released in January of 1968 later won Redding two 1968 Grammy Awards. In 1992, a release of the CD "The Very Best of Otis Redding was issued and soon went gold after selling more than 500,000 copies. Who knows where Otis Redding's career path might have taken him. All we know is that the world lost a musical legend whose classics live on.

I like the fact that LISTEN is an anagram of SILENT. Silence is not something that is there before the music begins

and after it stops. It is the essence of the music itself, the vital ingredient that makes it possible for the music to exist at all.

Loft Access & Electrical A local new business, supported by the Princes Trust. While the credit crunch has meant difficult times for people of all ages, it’s been young people who have been hit hardest with around a million currently out of work. Despite being made redundant numerous times and moving from temporary job to temporary job, one young man was determined to use his skills to make a success of both himself and his business, despite the recession. Loft Access & Electrical was established by Chris Shaw, from Great Harwood. Chris originally trained as a joiner and had already undertaken loft boarding for a company in the Greater Manchester area, then decided to take the plunge and set up his own business. At the time he was unemployed with no funds and only a set of tools, a skill set that was relevant, and a determination to succeed. At the local job centre Chris picked up a leaflet for the Princes Trust and within days of reading about the support and mentoring they provided he made an appointment to meet with one of their representatives. The Prince’s Trust gives both practical and financial support to young people from 14 to 30 years of age, and since 1976 they have helped more than 600,000 young people and with the help from a mentor in business planning they helped Chris launch his business. “Your loft space can represent up to one third of your total house floor area, so putting it to good use and creating some extra storage space makes good sense.” Says Chris. “With storage space at a premium for most homes an excellent alternative is to ‘Use Your Loft’. For very little outlay you can transform your loft space into a usable and easily accessible space that will become a valuable asset to your home. The benefits of storing items that take up a lot of space are massive. Suitcases, toys, Christmas decorations, games, books, and many other things you could easily and safely access whenever you want.” Chris also suggests that climbing up to access your loft can be risky to life and limb – why rely on digging out that rickety old step ladder or climbing onto the nearest piece of tall furniture, then entering the dark recesses of an unsafe loft – when you can draw down a secure ladder, switch on the light and easily access this valuable secure space. Chris can offer a selection of loft packages to meet the needs of most houses including 2 or 3 section ladders, British Standard Tongue & Groove Loft boarding which is fitted securely to the ceiling joists. Light and switch, with the switch positioned near to the loft hatch. Additionally Chris wanted to offer his customers more options so he undertook a VELUX window training course at the VELUX Academy in Kettering which he successfully completed in February this year.
