Die Fassade besteht aus einer Reihe von dreieckigen Elementen, deren Stahlstruktur von einer silbernen und transparenten Membran überzogen ist. Die Lichtgestalter von E3 Engineering waren sich darüber bewusst, dass die gleichmäßige Beleuchtung aller Flächen zu einem Verlust der speziellen dreidimensionalen Optik des Pavillons führen würde. Il Padiglione Tedesco si presenta come una rappre- sentazione fisica dell’equilibrio urbano tra volatilità e stabilità. Con molte città tedesche (e certamente europee) che attualmente stanno rivalutando l’idea di vivere nel centro città, gli urbanisti necessitano di creare degli spazi che possano bilanciare adegua- tamente le attività quotidiane con quelle lavorative. Soprannominato “Balancity”, il Padiglione tedesco sembra essere costituito, a prima vista, da un in- sieme di sezioni individuali instabili. Tuttavia, se lo si osserva nella sua interezza, tali sezioni appaiono lavorare insieme per creare una perfetta simbiosi. La facciata del Padiglione comprende una serie di aeroplani triangolari dove le membrane trasparenti e argentee si estendono oltre la struttura in acciaio. I

El Pabellón Alemán es una representación física del equilibrio urbano entre la volatilidad y la estabilidad. Muchas ciudades Alemanas (de hecho, Europeas) han evaluado desplazarse hacia el centro de la ciudad y allí residir; en consecuencia, planificadores crean espacios para equilibrar las actividades de vivienda y trabajo. Denominado ‘Balancity’, el Pabellón Alemán, parece a primera
vista, estar construido por una serie de secciones individuales e inestables. Sin embargo, cuando éste se visualiza en su conjunto, las secciones actúan simultáneamente y se apoyan e interactúan en perfecta simbiosis. La fachada consta de una serie de superficies planas triangulares, donde la bóveda laminar plateada y transparente se despliega sobre la estructura de acero. Los diseñadores del alumb- rado, la empresa E3 Engineering, analizaron que si todas las superficies planas se iluminaban todas al mismo tiempo, el pabellón perdería su apariencia especial tridimensional. En vez de ello, el equipo de E3, liderado por Ulrich Kunkel seleccionó diversas superficies planas y utilizó lámparas proyectoras, de la firma Tesis, empotradas en la tierra. Se utilizó una mezcla de proyectores de iluminación direc- cionales y de pared, lámparas de descarga de 35W ó 70W de la firma HIT. Para aquellas aplicaciones especiales, tal como la iluminación del cartelón ‘Germany’, se utilizaron lámparas proyectoras Beamer de 150W de la firma ERCO.
