BLUEFOX WIRELESS SAFETY SYSTEMS WINS ACCLAIM
www.swimmingpoolnews.co.uk
An innovative high tech system is rapidly becoming one of the most sought after safety options for swimming pools across Europe. Eighteen months ago, Deep Blue Marine launched the BlueFox Pool Safety System, a technology which monitors unattended pools for unsupervised entry into the water. It also monitors individuals in the water and can operate where there are multiple swimmers of various standards and ability in the water all at the same time. Since then it has been adopted and used across Europe as an effective and re-assuring system. Consisting of two systems in one, its technology can monitor an unattended pool for any unsupervised entry, “passive” safety; and for situations where there are swimmers of various standards and ability - “active” safety. Simply, when an object of a minimum weight falls into the water the alarm sounds. The system is driven by wireless technology so that remote alarms can be fitted anywhere in a house or building
complex to alert parents, supervisors or lifeguards to an incident in the pool. An alarm sensor receiver is located at two thirds of the water depth at the deepest point of the pool, on the pool wall. The monitors pick up the ultrasonic signals transmitted by the wrist computer units that are immersed in the pool. When anyone wearing the ‘wristwatch’ like equipment exceeding the programmed parameters depth and time an ultrasonic signal will be sent to the alarm sensor receiver and an acoustic and visual alarm is released by the alarm box. BlueFox is a pool safety system which can be retro fitted to existing swimming pools or can be installed into new pools. As an additional safety precaution, young children who cannot swim could permanently wear a wrist unit in case they accidentally fall into a swimming pool.

A Driglide cover on a Cotswold’s pool- constant research and development have been a key factor in Dripool’s market position
cover was first developed in the UK over 20 years ago. It was designed primarily to provide safety for a growing number of domestic pools which were being made aware for the first time of the safety implications of covers. The business was keen to have a strong visual reminder of just how much strength and safety the cover could provide and its almost a trademark for the company now of the image which shows a Rolls Royce in place on top of the cover. Dave Grantham, Aquatrac’s Sales Manager said: “Classically there are three elements to any pool cover – safety, energy savings and ease of application and use and we are keen to make sure that message gets out into the market. “Once upon a time pool covers only fitted certain accepted pool shapes but now there’s a cover for any shape and size – even infinity pools. That’s how the market has grown and we believe will continue to grow.” Dripool Sales Director Ian MacMath explains: “Children are attracted to water like bees to a honey pot, especially in hot weather and we must all ensure that we are doing everything possible to guarantee their safety at all times.” He says the company realises that safety around swimming pools is as important as safety in the home. Historically, pool contractors have proved somewhat reticent in raising the issue of pool safety at point of sale lest they create a negative feeling with their prospective customer. In truth, the customer is certainly aware that a large expanse of water could be a hazard and with the amount of safety options currently available, a well informed salesman can confidently approach the subject by offering tailored solutions in advance thus gaining the trust of the prospective customer whilst creating additional contract revenue. Managing Director Dave Jeffery added: “We are proud to be known as the UK’s only designer and manufacturer of automatic safety covers. It is very rare in this day and age for a company to build everything in- house but this allows us the flexibility to meet all customer requirements and with constant research and development, have been in a position to continually lead the way with innovative new ideas. The Infinity Driglide and Dripool Commercial hydraulic system to name but two recent additions.” Sales Manager Nick Potts continues: “It is fair to say that
the easier the cover is to operate, the more likely the client is to use it every time. A safety cover is only safe when in place and with a Dripool system, simply turning a key and pressing a button is the only requirement.”
Ian concludes: “We even extend our safety concerns to our rainwater removal pump, Herman, who automatically removes rainwater from the cover to ensure a ‘pool atop the pool scenario’ is never created. We also insisted from day one that the pump operates using 12V safety extra low voltage (s.e.l.v.) as we could never condone using 240V in Zone A although others still seem comfortable with this! I will never understand why you would go to the trouble of installing a safety cover to remove the risk of drowning and then dramatically increasing the risk of electrocution!” The new Walu cover from Certikin represents three covers for the price of one: installing one means you dispense with a solar bubble cover and its reel system, a winter cover and all other safety systems.
But first and foremost it is a safety cover. Manufactured to the French NF p90-308 safety standard and comfortably holding a weight of 100kg, the Walu offers solar and heat retention benefits and acts as a first class winter cover. Unlike other safety covers, where the whole system needs to be replaced if it should become damaged, all individual parts on the Walu cover are replaceable. The cover’s panels and anodised aluminium tubes are
interchangeable and so can be replaced, if necessary and on site. Two models are available – Evolution for all pool shapes up to 11m x 5 m and Starlight for all rectangular pools up to 11m by 5.50m. Shaping for ladders and step sections is accommodated and does not, in anyway, compromise safety.
The Walu comes in opaque and solar fabrics. The opaque shuts out light, so slowing down the growth of algae and pathogenic micro- organisms which considerably reduces the need for chemicals. The solar cover captures solar energy to cut down on heating costs. High wind anchor straps are supplied as standard.
The cover is easy to install and operate. It weighs just 1.250 kg per sq metre and can be rolled by just one person using a geared down manual crank (or two people using two cranks for pools of at least 50 sq m). This
