CERTIKIN’S SKIMMER IS A WINNER!
Readers of the hobbyist magazine Koi have bestowed on Certikin the coveted award of Best Skimmer Winner! Readers were invited to vote on all things pertaining to Koi keeping. Here’s a sample of just some of the plaudits received about the skimmer: ‘I have had a Certikin skimmer on my pond for 10 years and I’ve never had a problem with it – roll on the next 10!’ and ‘My Certikin in-wall skimmer was a great purchase and has kept my pond clean,’ and ‘These skimmers are easy to clean and work really well’.
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER AT £8M POOL REFIT
Swimmers have been enjoying a new £8m pool facilities at William Penn Leisure Centre in Rickmansworth. After more than two years of delay, the pool opened in early May. Work began at the leisure centre in March 2007, with the £4.6m project due for completion a year later. But it was plagued by problems and the costs have spiralled to £8m – more than double the estimate. As a result of the two year delay, the tax payer has also been forced to pay £16,000 per month – a total of £384,000 or the equivalent of about £533 every day – to Hertsmere Leisure for lost revenue.
US OFFERS GRANTS TO MAKE POOLS SAFER
The Consumer Product Safety Commission in the United States has announced that the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act’s grant programme is now accepting applications for funding from eligible states. The Act intends to enhance the safety of public pools and spas; reduce child drowning in pools and spas; reduce the number of suction entrapment incidents, injuries, and deaths; and educate the public on the importance of constant supervision of children in and around water.

TWO NEW ADDITIONS TO THE THERMALEC RANGE OF HEATERS
Thermalec have introduced two new models to their range of heaters for use on pools and spas. The new spa models complement the range with a 9kW and 12kW capacity heater which have been designed to accommodate the higher temperatures requested by Thermalec customers building spas in countries around the world. Having seen a real increase in sales of heaters specifically for purpose built spas in leisure centres, private homes and hotel wellness suites, and the constant

request for higher temperatures to be maintained, the company wanted to find a solution to cover these requests.
Thermalec’s technical engineering department have developed the new models over the last three months as part of the company’s continuing policy to deliver quality Spa Heaters to the Spa Industry.
The new heaters will be categorised as: 12PHR/9/SPA and 12PHR/12/SPA.
The heaters are available to all customers.
WESTBURY FIGHTS FOR ITS POOL
A petition to save Westbury’s historic swimming pool from closure has
gathered more than 2,000 signatures. The petition was launched after Wiltshire Council announced it was reviewing leisure provision in the county and felt there was an ‘overprovision of swimming pools’ in west Wiltshire. The review is due to be completed this summer. A total of 2,250 people have signed the petition, which was available in shops and pubs around the town, and it will be handed to Jane Scott, leader of Wiltshire Council.
DOLPHIN RIDES THE CREST OF A WAVE
Dolphin Wave, the commercial pool cleaner for pools of 25m and above, was the subject of a four day technical course held at the Maytronics factory in Nazareth attended by two of Certikin’s key personnel. Area Sales Manager, Ken Williams and Technical Sales Manager Chris Harris were the latest to benefit from the course which three others from Certikin have attended in the past including Automatic Covers Product Manager, Jo Catterall. The course is part of Maytronics’s ongoing commitment to providing the best in technical support and service.

Desjoyaux UK – Staines, will begin work on their display site at Notcutts garden centre in the next few weeks and will provide sales and pool building services in NW Surrey. Desjoyaux UK – Rolvenden, opened their display site in April at the World of Water garden centre, Rolvenden, Kent and will provide sales and pool build services in southern Kent. “The interest in Desjoyaux pipe-free pools and products has significantly exceeded expectations since our launch,” said Clive Elsden, Desjoyaux UK. “We are delighted to welcome Jerome Lagden and Lee Rice into our UK network.
