Craig Bragdy designers put innovation and idea first as they create bolder more imaginative designs

VALUE

A

dding value and style around the pool has never had more things going for it. The new season has pool builders looking for more flexible and imaginative use of ceramics and mosaics with designers and architects determined to offer good looks at competitive prices and perhaps as important – to work with new materials.

And while the downside of the recession has seriously affected the number of new pools being built there has been a noticeable benefit throughout the industry of pool owners deciding to upgrade and renovate existing pools – and that’s where finishing in and around the pools has brought about a mini boom in the investment going into pool surrounds. The third element in the good news story is that top end pools are putting more innovation and classic style into finishing off their pools using high quality designs and finishes. London pool architect Ian Harrison said: “There’s a lot more creative work now going

AND STYLE

AROUND THE POOL

MORE CREATIVE USE OF CERAMICS TOGETHER WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF NEW STYLE INNOVATIVE FINISHES HAS COMBINED TO BRING SOME FRESH ENERGY WHEN IT COMES TO FINISHING OFF A POOL. THE HIGH NUMBER OF RENOVATIONS WHERE OWNERS ARE LOOKING FOR NEW IDEAS TO LIFT THEIR POOLS OUT OF THE MUNDANE MEANS IT’S SUDDENLY A LIVELY MARKET

into getting the right quality of pool finish to a pool. Customers who have spent a lot of money getting the pool itself designed are looking for that extra finishing touch, something which adds the final touch of glamour.” Perhaps once upon a time the choices for pool tiles were limited to the cheap, mundane or garishly ornate. Functionality was the key and there was little imagination being used not just on pool tiles but how builders and

designers dealt with pool surrounds. Pool tiling and surface finishing materials have never been a more important design element – especially now as existing pool owners are looking to renovate and make a big impact with the new look of their pool. All tiled pools have helped the complete look brought about in infinity edged pools and more complex water features. The use of steam rooms and water therapy annexes to

designed are looking for that extra finishing touch, something which adds the final touch of glamour”
