50,000TH HEAT PUMP MILESTONE FOR WATERCO

Waterco’s heat pump manufacturing plant in Canada has reached a milestone of 50,000 heat pump units. The achievement has been credited to the Waterco Canada team and its years of excellence and dedicated efforts. The benchmark was set after the production of a 125,000 BTU(36kW) Electro Heat Plus heat pump rolled off the line. In 2005, Waterco purchased Focus Temp International, a Quebec based

designer and manufacturer of energy efficient swimming pool heat pumps and it continues to manufacture in the original production plant at Sainte Hyacinthe, Canada.

The most recent addition is the new range of ElectroHeat Sub Zero Heat pumps that are available in 16Kw and 25kw versions. “Waterco has spent a lot of time and money in the development of the Electro Heat

range of heat pumps to ensure that we are able to offer the market a heat pump of the highest quality to ensure maximum performance and reliability, and the Sub ero models are a perfect addition to the range” comments Tony Fisher, Waterco Europe. The Sub Zero version enables the consumer to extend the swimming season by using an automatic hot gas de–icing function, enabling it to continue to heat the pool water even when the air temperature drops below zero! The digital touch pad control panel provides a continuous digital pool temperature display and allows accurate pool temperature control in increments of 0.1 degrees! Also incorporating a self diagnostic system and the latest in “smart technology” ensures years of trouble free operation. As with most Canadian pool products where build quality and component parts are quality assured, Waterco’s Electro Heat Plus range is no exception.

POOLS COME UNDER NEW PETERBOROUGH LEISURE TRUST

A city council has reorganised the management of its leisure facilities, including swimming pools, to create a new structure to encourage the public to use facilities more. In what is being seen as an innovative move which might be copied throughout the UK, the management of swimming pools, sports centres, Peterborough’s Key Theatre, Museum and Art Gallery and public libraries has transferred

from Peterborough City Council into a specially created culture and leisure trust.

Trust officials unveiled a new ‘Vivacity’ brand to encourage more people to use the leisure and sports facilities.

Chairman Shelagh Smith said: “This is possibly the biggest and most exciting change to these services for a generation. Recent reports indicate that many types of council expect budget cuts in discretionary services such as swimming pools and sports facilities.”

The trust is applying for charitable status, giving it exemption from business rates

and other financial benefits. It will apply for funding from sources not available to the city council.

The 300 existing cultural and sports services staff have transferred into the new trust with their employment and pension conditions protected under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) regulations. Peterborough Culture and Leisure Trust Ltd has been assigned a 25-year contract to manage all the facilities. Peterborough City Council retains ownership of premises and major assets.

NEW CONSUMER WEBSITE LAUNCHED

What Pool & Hot Tub magazine, the consumer title produced by Go

Publishing Ltd have just launched a brand new website to complement the 2010 edition of the magazine.

The new website is available at www.whatpoolandhottubmag.co.uk

With a new issue due out soon, the website aims to carry additional content, suppliers and regional directories designed to assist consumers when choosing a pool, spa, hot tub or sauna. The magazine itself is the official consumer title of SPATA and BISHTA and whilst it recognises companies that are members of each association, it also lists non-members information from the rest of the industry. By being ‘open to all’, it is hoped that the website will be able to give consumers the widest range of information as is possible. What Pool & Hot Tub is unique in that it is the only product for consumers in the UK that covers all products in the wet leisure industry.

PLASTICA INVEST IN EXTRA SPACE TO COPE WITH DEMAND

Plastica, the swimming pool manufacturer and distributor, specialising in wooden pool, water treatment and solar covers have invested £50,000 in a new mezzanine floor at their St Leonards factory – a move which means they can almost guarantee a five day turn round on orders. The Sussex based business – well known for their wooden pools, chemicals (Relax Brand) pool liners, stainless steel ladders, rails and accessories needed the extra 325m2 of space to deal with a heavy order book. Said Ady Hall from Plastica; “We’ve been so busy we were running out of room and it was putting pressure on our turn round for orders. The delivery times were going out to seven and eight days which is not what we want.“

The new area, built this year takes the total factory area to 1,700m2.

“It was important that we could react to the needs of customers. The recent good weather has made everyone busy so it’s been a great bit of timing for us,” he added. The work was carried out in rapid time with very little disruption and the extra space will mean contended customers.
