GARDEN BUILDINGS

OPTIONS FOR ALONGSIDE THE POOL

A NEW ‘ROOM’ FOR ENTERTAINING AND AN AREA FOR RELAXATION FOR ALL

THE FAMILY IS IN GREAT DEMAND. FLEXIBLE PLANNING REGULATIONS MEAN THAT ADDING A GARDEN BUILDING IS A MUCH MORE STRAIGHTFORWARD AND SENSIBLE OPTION THAN EVER BEFORE AND THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS AND YOU CAN NOW GAIN A NEW ‘ROOM’ WITHOUT THE NEED FOR BUILDERS

T

he more flexible Permitted Development rights means it has never been easier to have a pool house in your garden – even if planning permission has previously been denied. So whether it’s a pool house, pool cabana, summer house, log cabin or a bespoke poolside structure, the addition of a pool building can now be an easier process and still add greatly to the enjoyment of the pool and garden.

Maintaining the interest in these vastly adaptable units is not proving too difficult and sales continue to appear strong. The unpredictability of the weather in the UK is an excellent selling point for suppliers of pool houses, cabins and enclosures. Control and convenience are the keys. Everyone has a busy life and anything to reduce wasted time and energy has to be a good thing. Relaxation time is paramount and should be made the most of.

The installation of a building can transform an outdoor pool protecting users from the elements and also reducing costs spent on heating and cleaning. Leaves and debris are eliminated from the pool surround so less time is wasted on maintenance. With this additional new space you can relax and enjoy the beauty of your garden without being cold. With opening windows and doors, when we are blessed with clear sunny days, the full advantage can be enjoyed and when the cool of the evening sets in there’s no need to stop the fun. A pool house or enclosure helps to reduce maintenance and helps to keep the pool temperature 10° to 12° higher through limiting heat loss and in some cases the warmth created by the sun can be harnessed and put to good use. Fully insulated units can be aimed at the school, hotel or holiday market where a day or night lost unable to use the facilities due to poor weather is not an option. Holidaymakers want to be able to swim after a day exploring the locality and a rainy, cold day can’t be allowed to prevent this.

There is a model to suit every budget and to fit into every garden landscape. Mark Smalley of Lakeland Log Cabins said, “About 12 months ago we set about manufacturing a value for money option for people wanting a spa, changing area, sauna

solution as well as general enclosures and in February this year at SPATEX 2010 we launched our Lakeland Log Cabin brand which not only specialises in anything from a shed to a live in log cabin but package solutions for customers wanting their experience to be enhanced from an enclosure.

“In the past we have sold many different types of enclosure which have varied in price, quality and practicality however we struggled to find a product that gave us all three so we set out to design what we would regard as the perfect solution.

“The Buttermere, our flagship model ticked all the boxes made from 44mm slow grown Norwegian spruce it certainly was built with quality and strength in mind. Having its own incorporated changing/sauna room it was also practical from a point of view of saying goodbye to the mad dashes across the garden to the house before “something fell off” moments!! …and with a trade price of only £2,995 it represents fantastic value for money. “We also designed a range of enclosures for spas, swim spas, pools and saunas. Details can be found on our website.”

A HOME IMPROVEMENT?

The improvement to the house and garden which a summerhouse, gazebo or pool enclosure provides far out weighs the initial investment with prices starting from around £3,000. These units are designed for many years of use and to withstand the elements thrown at them in a British winter. For the small domes and lean to type enclosures, should you decide to sell your house and the new purchaser chooses not to keep the spa or dome, simply take it with you to enjoy at your new home.

From the point of view of the estate agent there are occasions where house purchasers have asked the vendors for a reduction in the house price to cover the cost of disposal of a spa. They do not realise the benefits of owning spa or how cheap they are to maintain and the wide variety of products and covers available.

Some people feel the cost of maintaining a pool far out weighs the enjoyment that can be had from it and when they move in, the first thing they do is have it filled in. A sad thought is that for not much more than the Page 1  |  Page 2  |  Page 3  |  Page 4  |  Page 5  |  Page 6  |  Page 7  |  Page 8  |  Page 9  |  Page 10  |  Page 11  |  Page 12  |  Page 13  |  Page 14  |  Page 15  |  Page 16  |  Page 17  |  Page 18  |  Page 19  |  Page 20  |  Page 21  |  Page 22  |  Page 23  |  Page 24  |  Page 25  |  Page 26  |  Page 27  |  Page 28  |  Page 29  |  Page 30  |  Page 31  |  Page 32  |  Page 33  |  Page 34  |  Page 35  |  Page 36  |  Page 37  |  Page 38  |  Page 39  |  Page 40  |  Page 41  |  Page 42  |  Page 43  |  Page 44  |  Page 45  |  Page 46  |  Page 47  |  Page 48  |  Page 49  |  Page 50  |  Page 51  |  Page 52  |  Page 53  |  Page 54  |  Page 55  |  Page 56  |  Page 57  |  Page 58  |  Page 59  |  Page 60  |  Page 61  |  Page 62  |  Page 63  |  Page 64  |  Page 65  |  Page 66  |  Page 67  |  Page 68  |  Page 69  |  Page 70  |  Page 71  |  Page 72  |  Page 73  |  Page 74  |  Page 75  |  Page 76  |  Page 77  |  Page 78  |  Page 79  |  Page 80  |  Page 81  |  Page 82  |  Page 83  |  Page 84  |  Page 85  |  Page 86  |  Page 87  |  Page 88  |  Page 89  |  Page 90  |  Page 91  |  Page 92  |  Page 93  |  Page 94  |  Page 95  |  Page 96  |  Page 97  |  Page 98  |  Page 99  |  Page 100
