IN BRIEF

EDINBURGH INVESTS IN POOLS OLD AND NEW

The Victorian facade of one of Edinburgh’s best known swimming baths is being restored to its former glory. A four-month project to repair ageing stonework is due to be completed next month. The project, funded by Edinburgh Leisure, began in November last year, but the swimming pool has remained open during the works. It is one of several major projects being carried out to Edinburgh’s swimming pools, including the £37m revamp of the Commonwealth Pool and the £5.3m refurbishment at Glenogle Baths, both of which are currently under way. Portobello Swim Centre last underwent a major revamp 12 years ago. It was closed for almost three years during a £4.25m renovation, which brought the ageing facilities and former salt water pool into the 21st century. The main pool was fitted with a moveable floor allowing the depth to be varied for teaching and coaching. But the vast modernisation also kept the swimming pool’s Victorian feel by restoring its Turkish and Russian baths, steam rooms and sauna, aerotone and two hot baths.

PERISTALTIC PUMP PROVES ITSELF AS IDEAL SYSTEM

The Verderflex Aura peristaltic dosing pump is already making waves. This model is ideal for low flow, high pressure dosing applications and the facilities that are already benefiting from its introduction are leisure centres, swimming pools and saunas. Typical early users include a leading supplier of engineering services to the swimming pool industry. Its interest is in the low, constant flow of polyaluminium chloride and to introduce essence into steam rooms, again a low dosing application. And following a successful trial at a major London health spa, the Verderflex Aura will be replacing existing piston pumps that service its spas and wet rooms. For this user, performance and price were the deciding factors.

Verderflex Aura is suitable for a broad range of applications. Typically it is being specified for dosing sodium hypochlorite, sodium hydroxide, sulphuric acid, flocculants, fragrances and essential oils. It is also proving popular for small scale water treatment and cooling tower applications. The Aura is suited to shear sensitive flocculants due to its gentle pumping action and is also tolerant of small solids and therefore not dependent on solutions being thoroughly mixed. -

TWO NEW

EVERYDAY SPAS ADDED TO RANGE

Two new models – the ‘435’ and ‘660’ – have been added to the ‘Everyday’ 2010 range of mid-range domestic spas from Golden Coast, joining the ‘Everyday 545’, launched during 2009.

The ‘Everyday’ range features powerful two-pump hydrotherapy systems delivered through two filtration units and an automatic ozone system. Dependent on the model, up to 60 stainless steel jets massage the lower, middle and upper parts of the body, including the neck and the feet.

Each spa also features individual headrests, interior underwater LED lighting, backlit therapeutic waterfall cascades and a spa cover as ‘standard’ features.

Optimising seating and space for up to six bathers, the interiors incorporate a reclining chair, a deep-seat and even a two-person ‘love’ seat, along with a new internal entry step. Stocked in three popular colours and set in an American Cherry cabinet all the units come with a five-year structural warranty.
