available in liquid or granular form. For most chemicals it isn’t a case of just throwing it directly into the pool – you could bleach and stain the liner.

Nevertheless it is best to mix any granular shock chlorine in a bucket of warm water and then add that mixture into the pool while the system is running. The process of shock dosing will kill any algae and harmful organisms that may be present. Allow the water to circulate for 12-24 hours to ensure thorough mixing. Once the shock treatment has taken effect it may be necessary to vacuum the dead algae that may be left on the pool floor. Alternatively if you have a green pool you may wish to contact us to discuss further treatment. In order to protect your pool from algae over the coming months you will need to add a longlife algicide to the water. This will give your pool water protection from algae and fungi following the winter shut-down. You might also add a stain preventer. This can help prevent the formation of scale and staining from dissolved minerals so as to keep the water and pool surfaces in good order. Finally if your pool water is now clear and your system is successfully running with no problems you may want to test your water for pH, alkalinity and chlorine. Adjust these levels where necessary and once these are all ok you are ready for the season.

Golden Coast has a range of ‘Swimmer’ branded water treatment products specifically designed to ensure the entire pool system is cleaned and ready for use at the start of the season: • Swimmer Filter Cleaner – a pre-season filter cleaner to cleanse the filter media

• Swimmer Algae Destroyer – eliminating any winter build-up of algae in the pool water

• Swimmer Tidemark Cleaner – inhibiting the potential for metals and minerals naturally found in the water to stain pool interior surfaces and damage pool equipment

Both large and small pools and spas can be catered for, with all the main chemicals

necessary for good water disinfection and balance available in a variety of pack sizes from 1kg upwards.

In addition to the Swimmer range, for pool owners who want to reduce their contact with

chemicals yet ensure that the correct dosing is always achieved at the start of and

throughout the season, Golden Coast also supplies a range of floating chemical dispensers, as well as the self-contained ‘FROG’ – ‘water treatment centre’.

Installed as an in-line cleaner with no need for extra plumbing, the ‘FROG’ does not use electricity – a major green credential – and provides the added advantage of having a ready mixed mineral reservoir capable of holding Trichlor tablets for a low level chlorine back-up. As well as removing bacteria and preventing algae growth, it helps keep the pool’s water pH balanced, making the water feel ‘softer’, whilst giving it a crystal clear sparkle. With a six-month life span (a season’s use for an outdoor pool), the reservoir is easily removed and replaced by simply unscrewing the top of the unit. There is even a ‘SPA FROG’. For those wanting a complete pool or spa area spring clean, Golden Coast has ‘303 PFC’, a patio furniture cleaner that safely soaks in and lifts soils and stains so they can be wiped off or rinsed away.

Used either full strength or diluted and safe to use on any water-safe surface, 303 PFC uses a proprietary blend of sequester agents, surfactants and hyper-wetting agents and is particularly effective on leaf stains, bird droppings, tree sap, berry juice, wine, barbecue smoke, oil and grease. Fi-Clor offers a range of hi products aimed specifically at the task of opening up a new season pool. The well known Fi-Clor range of stabilised chlorine granules and tablets, also Super fast – the dissolving unstabilised granular chlorine around, can be used as a regular sanitiser or shock treatment to keep your pool safe and crystal clear.

A specific product for the time of year is Fi- Clor Spring Open-Up which helps protect your pool from algae. It gives your pool water protection from algae and fungi following the winter shut-down. It can also help prevent the formation of scale and staining from dissolved minerals so as to keep the water and pool surfaces in good order.

Complete Pool Controls Ltd supplying swimming pool and spas with chemical treatment and related dosing equipment products.

Included within its products are its own brands of Blue Horizons for pools, AquaSPArkle for hot tubs and CPC commercial for commercial operators.

The ‘FROG’ – an in-line cleaner with no need for extra plumbing

A comprehensive range of chemicals, dosing equipment and spares are stocked to allow swift service and this, aligned to in-depth marketing support, make our products a natural choice for UK pool and hot tub outlets and owners, as well as commercial operators nationwide.

CPC has three main product sectors in their well supported stable of brands. Blue Horizon for pools, AquaSPArkle for spas and hot tubs and the heavier duty yet straightforward CPC Commercial line. Other key products include Natural Chemistry and Aquablanc together with a comprehensive range of dosing and control systems plus analysis software. Sagewash, the new sanitiser exclusive to Certikin International, is ideal for the cleaning of pool surrounds for the new season, in fact anything that needs disinfecting. Using a hose-end sprayer, it is a precisely calibrated, scientifically designed and tested, patented sanitising system. The hydro-injection venturi system produces a solution of hypochlorite acid (at 70ppm) that is up to 120 times more effective than liquid bleach and whilst sanitising, it will blast away dirt with a jet stream of water. Sagewash kills bacteria, viruses, mould and algae including norovirus, pseudomonas, legionella and swine flu whilst eliminating the need for scrubbing and has none of the staining associated with bleach. Unlike many other disinfectants, Sagewash requires no pre-rinse and no water rinse afterwards to remove harmful chemical residues. The Sagewash maintains a continuous flow of sanitizing fluid for the life of the capsule. A capsule will provide full flow sanitising for 3.5 hours from new. The usage rate is such that this guarantees that the Sagewash is both effective and economic to use. Its calcium hypochlorite capsules are much more stable than the more commonly used sodium hypochlorite.

So all you need to do is cross your fingers for a great summer of 2010! spn
