Interview—Mike Nelson,
Etek Europe Ltd
Etek Europe Ltd is a reasonably new distribution group based in Scotland and operating in the UK and
Eastern Europe. However, the people behind the organization are anything but new.
Mike Nelson (managing director) has been in the UK & European electronics industry for over 20
years, working for companies such as Digital Equipment Corp and Speedline Technologies before starting
a few distribution companies in Eastern Europe. Trevor Galbraith caught up with him on a recent visit to
Shenzhen, China.
Q1. Mike, you are a long way from home.
Why are you here at Nepcon South
China, and what are you hoping to take
away from the show?
We are looking for a few product lines
to compliment our existing range of
equipment and services. We try and visit
one or two of the Asian trade shows every
year to follow the trends of the market over
here.
Q2. You currently represent many
of the household names in western
assembly equipment, such as Aqueous
Technologies, BPM Microsystems KIC,
Focalspot, Purex, Speedline, etc. Do you
think in future you will be representing
more Asian lines?
Yes, we shall be adding a few Asian
products to our product portfolio in the
coming months. Asian equipment is now
leading the way with some technologies
and new processes.
Q3. What key qualities does Etek possess
that can make it the world’s first super-
distributor?
Customer support and service is our main
focus at Etek. We maintain strong relations
with all of our suppliers. This continuous
process not only guarantees our customers
access to the latest developments, it also
ensures that our engineers are kept up to
date with the very latest processes. We need
to help keep our customers ahead of their
competition.
