THE SKINNY ON THE LATEST AND GREATEST

58 Hook 15 Length 15.5 Breakpoint Shape RADICAL: GURU MIGHTY

Manufacturer’s Intent: “Straight from the horse’s mouth, the Guru Mighty uses the pow- erful Guru core to create tremendous hitting power and a coverstock that creates more length and a sharper breakpoint than the original Guru [November 2014],” says Radical design- er Mo Pinel. “This makes the Guru Mighty the choice on a wider variety of lane conditions for a wider variety of bowlers. It comes sanded 1000/4000 from the factory to get through the front part of the lane easily. To get it to read pat- terns a little firmer, just add a little surface (3000 or 2000).”

Core: The Guru asymmetric core, from the orig- inal Guru, has an RG of 2.501, a differential of .044, and an intermediate differential of .018. We had over 5 inches of flare.

Coverstock: The navy solid and emerald green pearl hybrid coverstock is finished with 4000 SiaAir. We measured an RA value of 6.80 and an effective surface grit of 3300.

Overview: The Guru Mighty cut through the oil on the Stone Street pattern nicely. Even though it is a pearl coverstock, the 4000-grit surface allowed it to smooth out the wet/dry condition. We played about two to three boards right with our feet from the original Guru, and targeted 16 at the arrows to the seven board at the 45-foot breakpoint. The Mighty read the midlane sooner with a smoother reaction and produced a better angle for us on this pattern. We had miss room left. The pearl cover didn’t seem to be affected by the volume on the longer pattern. We had miss area right on the USBC Doubles/Singles

“THOSE WITH LOWER REV RATES WILL GET A STRONG BACK-END REACTION WITHOUT TRYING.”

pattern by crossing 17 or 18 at the arrows to the seven-board at the 45-foot breakpoint. Surprisingly, we could even use the Mighty one on the lighter house pattern from around 20 at the arrows out to the 10-board at the break- point of 44-45 feet. The reaction was strong off the spot with a smooth, angular motion toward the pocket, and without losing energy through the pins. Bowlers with lower rev rates will get a lot of hook and strong back-end reaction with- out trying. Also, this one gets through the fronts easily and saves energy well for bowlers with slower ball speeds who want a lot of hook.
