Ball Review
THE SKINNY ON THE LATEST AND GREATEST
52 Hook 15 Length 14 Breakpoint Shape 900 GLOBAL: BREAK DOWN
Manufacturer’s Intent: 900 Global told us that the Break Down is a tweak to their first ball, the Break (October 2007). They significantly raised the RG and lowered the differential to provide more length and less flare to accommodate broken-down patterns, particularly medium-heavy volume tour- nament conditions.
Core: The modified Break asymmetric core has an RG of 2.57, a differential of .030 and an intermediate differential of .011. We saw about 2 inches of flare.
Coverstock: The bright blue S70 solid coverstock is finished with the 4000-grit Neat “T” pad. Out of the box it has an RA value of 3.50 and effective sur- face grit of 4520.
Overview: The Break Down makes all the patterns
look so simple. It’s not the most aggressive ball out there, but a good all-around benchmark ball for any arsenal. On the Stone Street pattern, we played close to the track area, crossing 12 to 13 at the arrows to the seven-board at the 45-foot mark (according to the CATS), which gave us a predict- able breakpoint with a strong drive through the pin deck. We were five boards farther right with our feet than we were with the Dream (August 2014). This ball really blended out the pattern to conquer the wet/dry condition of that house shot. It made the USBC Doubles/Singles pattern look very easy with hold to the left and predictable recovery in the track area. Terrance says it’s going to be the first ball he throws in El Paso this year. We were crossing around 13 or 14 at the arrows, out to the seven- or eight-board at the 44-foot breakpoint. The Break Down played really well on the light house

pattern, where we could open it up with no over- reaction to the right and an easy push through the fronts. Even from inside the third arrow, we still had good drive through the pocket after reaching the 45- to 46-foot breakpoint at the seven-board. Often, benchmark balls lose hitting power from an inside angle, but not so with this one. The Break Down is a great tournament ball. It fits all styles of bowlers, from speed-dominant to speed-deprived. Rev- dominant players will truly love this ball.
