THE SKINNY ON THE LATEST AND GREATEST

58 Hook 14 Length 14 Breakpoint Shape HAMMER: BAD INTENTIONS

Manufacturer’s Intent: “For those not easily offended and who want to play a little mischie- vously, Hammer has a grittier, bigger hooking ball for you than the Bad Ass [October 2014],” says Ebonite Marketing Director Bugsy Kelly. “We call it Bad Intentions… which features the same symmetric Spheroid core shape, but uses a grittier, more aggressive cover: Juiced Xtreme.”

Core: The symmetric Spheroid core has an RG of 2.48 and a differential of .048. We saw more than 6 inches of flare.

Coverstock: The new black Juiced Xtreme solid coverstock comes out of the factory sanded with 500 and 3000 Abralon. It has an RA value of 16.87 and an effective surface grit of 1530.

Overview: This bad boy does have some Bad Intentions, with a lot of hook out of the box. It is strong in the midlane, with continuation through the pins, but there had better be a lot of condi- tioner on the lane. It was way too much on our light house pattern. On the USBC Doubles/Singles pattern, we could play 20 at the arrows out to the breakpoint around the nine-board at 44 feet, according to our CATS data. We could open up the pattern with easy recovery to the right, but didn’t have miss room left on the fresh because of the massively strong ball reaction. On Stone Street, the Bad Intentions opened up the pat- tern easily with a strong mid-lane read, cutting through the heavier volume and length. We were crossing the 17-board at the arrows out to the eight- or nine-board at the 44- to 45-foot break- point. This bad boy was more than three more

boards hook than the Bad Ass on this pattern. These two balls make a tough team and comple- ment each other nicely. When the Bad Intentions starts to burn up or can’t get through the fronts, just grab the Bad Ass and you should be good to go. For rev-deprived bowlers in heavy oil, or for those with a lot of ball speed, this is a must ball for your bag. It is one of the most hooking sym- metric core balls I have seen, and not just from Hammer. The Bad Intentions is definitely the ball for longer patterns and heavier volumes. You hon- estly don’t have to catch this ball much to see how much it can hook.
