THE SKINNY ON THE LATEST AND GREATEST

41 Hook 17 Length 13 Breakpoint Shape ABS: ABSOLUTION BULLET

Manufacturer’s Intent: According to the manufacturer, the ABSolution Bullet is a mid-to upper-mid-priced ball for dry to light conditions. It provides a clean skid through the fronts and control in the backend.

Core: The Modified Premium symmetric core has a RG of 2.50 and low differential of .011. We saw about 1 to 2 inches of flare.

Coverstock: The shiny lilac purple Bullet pearl reactive coverstock is finished with 600, 1000 and 2000 diamond compound finish. The RA value is 1.81, and the effective surface grit is 5140.

Overview: This Bullet does exactly what the manufacturer says it will. You really do need friction to match up with this ball, and when you have it,

you can easily conquer short or burned-up patterns. On Stone Street, we had to play in the track area and point the ball up the pattern to hit the pocket. We had miss room right, but had to keep it on line. We were at the eight-board at the arrows and around nine or 10 at the 47-foot breakpoint mark. On the USBC Doubles/Singles pattern, we were closer to six at the arrows and 10 at the breakpoint. On our light house pattern, we were able to play the farthest right — nine at the arrows to six or seven at the 45- to 46-foot breakpoint — of any ball since we started the reviews on this pattern. Usually a ball with such a small differential loses hitting power but, surprisingly, this ball had good drive through the pins from this angle. One thing that’s nice about testing at the Kegel Training Center is there usually are several other patterns on other lanes. In the day we tested this ball, there was the 33-foot Sydney

pattern. The Bullet is definitely the ball to have on this pattern. Playing up the three- or four-board at the arrows, we struck often with its predictable and controllable back-end reaction. The Bullet allows you to square up on any pattern. It would be great for bowlers with low speeds to keep the ball in play, or for high-rev players on short patterns.
