“M

ost responsible franchisors offer some form of induction

training to new franchise partners to get them off on the right foot. At Select, however, we put training and support at the heart of everything we do. This starts with a 12-month academy training programme for all new franchise partners that guides them through their first year in business. This includes mentoring and coaching from a support team with years of experience in the world of recruitment and franchising. We view training and support as a continuous investment and recognise that every new franchise partner will have different needs. Our training programmes are therefore tailored to each individual and have the long-term flexibility to provide the relevant support at the relevant time. Many of our franchise partners come

from a non-recruitment background, so the induction training focuses on offering a complete insight into the world of running your own recruitment business; the methodology, best practices, fundamental legal and compliance issues and understanding your local candidate, client and competitor markets. Practical support is provided onsite at your own office, and focuses on sales, candidate and client attraction, development and retention as well as how to build successful permanent and temporary recruitment desks within your new business. We provide our franchise partners with all of the back-office support required

to run their business including providing payroll, invoicing, finance, HR, IT, compliance and marketing support. This keeps the training focussed on candidates and clients, ensuring that all new franchise partners finish the initial induction training programme feeling confident and competent, and ready to start building a highly successful recruitment business. We also recognise the value that comes with having access to the Select brand, which is known throughout the UK for delivering high-quality, added- value services. This doesn’t happen by chance; our training programmes have been accredited by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC). Crucially, our business model has not been structured to make money from selling franchises, but rather to generate profit

“Our aim is to ensure we add value with the support we provide”

from the success of our franchise partners. Once franchise partners have finished their induction training they are not set adrift and left to cope on their own; owning a franchise is not a test to see if you can pass or fail. Our aim is to ensure we add value with the support we provide, creating synergies that, in turn, will help you to avoid costly mistakes and achieve better results than you could by going it alone. Most of our franchise partners start by building a small team, usually with one or two recruitment consultants employed in the first instance. As the business grows, the team is expanded in line with demand, with an established office typically having four or five recruitment consultants in their team. Our intensive management-training programme equips franchise partners with the skills needed to recruit, manage, motivate and monitor team members, including skills such as effective delegation, coaching, forecasting and general financials for cost control. All franchise partners and their employees are also offered an opportunity to gain professional qualifications offered

by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC), in particular the new certificate in recruitment practice. Select is currently one of only 15 recruitment organisations in the UK that have been accredited by the REC to deliver courses in-house. This sets Select apart from the vast majority of our competitors. We spent six months writing a robust, in-depth training course recognised and supported by the REC, the recruitment industry’s governing body – a noble benchmark awarded to a limited number of recruitment agencies in the UK. The comprehensive REC training programme is divided over a six-month period where after an exam is taken, successful delegates are rewarded with an OFSTED-accredited membership to the REC. These courses ensure franchise partners and their employees are working with the highest levels of service and knowledge that Select clients and candidates expect. Our new franchise partners are assigned to a dedicated new office academy manager before the induction starts. This provides support and guidance on recruiting and building a winning team, territory mapping, creating a marketing strategy, relationship building and client and candidate attraction, retention and care. Our comprehensive induction

programme continues with weekly, monthly and mid-year reviews carried out to ensure all training is kept on track, resolving any issues that may arise, supporting where needed. This is included as part of the initial franchise fee, with the franchise partner simply paying for any travel and hotel expenses, along with the nominal cost of sitting the REC exam. We are proud to say that people investing in a Select franchise will be supported at every step of the way – from selecting your first business premises, to realising your hard work and investment many years down the line. In terms of business service franchises, we believe we have one of the most comprehensive training packages in the entire sector. Our latest franchise partners certainly think so too!”
