Half a century of success
n Snap-on continue to go from strength to strength. This year, the UK arm of the global franchise celebrates its 50th anniversary, and kicks off 2015 by hosting two large tool fairs for franchisees to come together and support each other’s businesses. The fi rst tool fairs of the year will be taking place in Gatwick and Manchester. Over 370 attendees are expected and all will have the chance to attend training sessions on topics such as

using technology to help with their businesses, growing their businesses by introducing an assistant and how to close deals on toolboxes. Throughout the day, franchisees will also have the opportunity to purchase great products for their businesses. The day’s events will be followed by an awards ceremony and black tie evening dance to help franchisees unwind and celebrate everyone’s successes. Lisa Law, Snap-on’s national franchise manager, said: “Reaching this huge milestone is testament to the hard work put in by everyone involved with the Snap-on brand. That includes the team at head offi ce and our vast network of franchisees; we all strive to sustain our brand and our reputation. There’s no denying the commitment pays off – it’s why we’re the go-to choice for professional technicians across the UK. We plan to continue our success into 2015 and even the next 50 years. We’re at the top of our game and the leaders in our market and we intend to keep that position.”

Trevor Brocklebank
n Award-winning management franchise, Home Instead Senior Care, is the fi rst national home care provider to receive an Outstanding judgement in the Care Quality Commission’s new rating system. Trevor Brocklebank, CEO and co- founder of Home Instead Senior Care, had this to say: “The start of 2015 brings ‘outstanding’ news straight home to us: we are the fi rst national home-care provider to receive an Outstanding judgement in the Care Quality Commission’s new rating system.
management franchise, will I have to be hands- on in the beginning?”
Carol Stewart-Gill is the founder of Dublcheck, a management franchise that provides commercial cleaning services
A
ny franchise that you invest in will need an initial period of hands-on work in order to get the business set up and running smoothly. Most franchisors will provide help and support with aspects such as marketing, recruitment and admin, at least in the beginning, and this support is what differentiates a new franchise business from an independent start- up, enabling you to get the business established quicker. The sooner your
business is established, the sooner you can focus on managing and developing the operation.
The only exception to this would be if you bought a franchise resale, in which case you would be taking over a business with a respected brand known within the local community and, therefore with an existing customer base. This means you will most likely be taking on a management role from day one.
“The CQC has announced its fi rst three Outstanding judgements under the new approach, which has seen published ratings on over 300 services to date. At Home Instead, we’re incredibly proud that one of the fi rst Outstanding ratings has been awarded to our West Lancashire and Chorley franchise offi ce, recognising our very personal brand of home care. “I applaud the CQC’s new rating system. It places more emphasis on the person receiving the care – which means real lives are better recognised – and that has to be welcomed.
“Five pivotal questions underpin the
CQC’s new approach to the inspection and regulation of our sector – is the service: safe, effective, caring, responsive, well-led? “At Home Instead these principles are
the cornerstones of our care provision and an Outstanding CQC rating is a perfect complement to our ethos. “I believe the new ratings system
recognises the difference quality care provision makes to real lives across the care landscape. That’s the lives of our clients foremost but also our caregivers and care managers as well as the care professionals that we partner with.”
