Day in the life Being the boss Safwan Adam runs three CeX stores in London. Here, he describes a typical day
locations where we could open a store, finding units in the area and sourcing key information about the sites to assist us in making an informed decision. We expect a 100 per cent increase in like-for-like sales year on year, which is more than reasonable considering our aspirations and passion, and we want to keep in line with franchisor growth! Sometimes I also look into other methods of business expansion, whether it is increasing customer care or other avenues.
7:00pm Safwan Adam I
have many responsibilities aside from simply managing my stores. I sometimes help out the British Franchise Association by, for example, assisting in a lecture at the London School of Business. I also visited the US a few months ago to assist with CeX stores there. Although every day is different, here I aim to offer an insight into life as a franchisee…
6:30am-8:00am
I wake up and begin the day. My first priority is to check my emails and chase up anything outstanding that requires a resolution. Once I have finished and everything has been attended to, I then go to pray Fajr (dawn prayers) before heading out.
8:30am-9:30am The stores are about to open so I am preparing targets and ensuring everything is planned out for the day ahead. I make an effort to attend at least one store per day so I can personally find out how things are progressing and provide advice and insight to each manager.
11:00am-12:30pm
Once I have finished overseeing the store I will head to our office to check up on the repair side of things, as we personally repair any products under warranty that customers bring into our stores. Here, we make sure that we run an efficient service and the customer is getting the best possible experience! I do not have a desk here and I purposefully keep it that way, as I prefer to be mobile, which ensures I am taking care of my stores as opposed to completing paperwork.
1:00pm-2:00pm Occasionally around this point I will go to lunch. Typically, I work through my lunch unless another member of staff or group is going, at which point I will go along with them and turn it into a small meeting to discuss goals and any outstanding issues. I like to pride myself on being approachable, forthcoming and friendly, so if a member of staff needs to talk I am more than happy to sit down and work out anything with them.
3:00pm onwards
My main focus right now is on expansion. I will spend some time researching potential

Even though work is now over, as a multi-store owner I am always attending to emails and the business is always at the forefront of my thoughts. Every evening I try to head to a shisha bar or take part in another social activity to relax my mind. The day is almost done and the stores will be closing soon. I am only as strong as the team that stands behind me. I have a dedicated and passionate workforce that I consider family and all of this simply would not be possible without them. n
