Huseyin Nurhakli, CeX Tonbridge
What was your previous occupation? I was in the mobile phone repair business.
Why did you decide to look into franchising?
I wanted to be a part of a big organisation that provided guidance and a template to work with, but still be my own boss.
What were your criteria for choosing a franchise?
I wanted to be in an industry I had prior knowledge of and enjoyed, with good returns.
What appealed most about a CeX franchise? It’s a large organisation, dealing in products that I have a passion for, but investing did not involve taking a huge risk. CeX’s rapid growth in a short amount of time assured me of its success.
What training did you receive? In total I have received over 400 hours of training. Starting with an initial induction and a three-day store experience. From there, I completed my basic training in store as sales assistant then went on to running a store as a supervisor, concluding with manager training. In- between this I attended various courses at the head offi ce in London, one of them being ‘train the trainer’, which I found very useful when training my own staff.
How would you rate it? It was very good, I felt ready to run my store on opening day and the tools were there when I needed them.
Since becoming a franchise owner is it how you expected it to be? Yes and much more, it feels good to be a part of CeX.
What type of support have you received?
The support has been excellent. Everybody involved cannot do enough to assist – from my franchise manager and operations manager to all the support team. They are just a phonecall away whenever I need them.
What aspect of it have you found most benefi cial?
My franchise manager has helped with every aspect of the business. This gave me the free time to concentrate on my training and development.
What is your current turnover? Our projection for the fi rst year is £800,000. I am only in the fi rst weeks of trading but with the response so far it looks like it’s going to be well over our fi rst projections.
Do you feel the CeX have fulfi lled their obligations? Yes, in every way possible.
What do you enjoy most about your business? How has it improved your lifestyle?
I enjoy motivating my staff and seeing them enjoy their work as much as I do. I have the freedom to do other things as the tools are available for me to keep a track even if I am not around.
What are your plans for the future? I hope to be a multi-store owner, hopefully four more stores in the next six years.
Who would suit a CeX franchise? A people person with a keen interest in the products they sell who is good at motivating others. n
CEX
