Southeastern appoints new managing director

First Capital Connect (FCC) managing director David Statham has been appointed as the new managing director of Southeastern.

He replaces Charles Horton, who will head up the Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern

(TSGN) franchise, which itself takes over former FCC routes.

Statham, who joined British Rail as a management trainee in 1992, takes over from Monday 15 September. He has worked across most of FirstGroup’s rail franchises and has had

a key role on the Thameslink transformation.

Go-Ahead Group CEO David Brown said: “David has proven success in leading complex railway change projects and improving customer satisfaction levels.”

Balfour Beatty confirms sale of Parsons Brinckerhoff for £820m, but potential Carillion merger collapses

Balfour Beatty has announced the sale of its professional services division, Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB), to WSP Global Inc for £820m.

Merger talks between Balfour Beatty and Carillion plc recently collapsed in part due to complications and disagreements about the proposed sale of PB.

After taxes, fees and other deductions of about £50m,

together with separation-related costs of about £30m, Balfour Beatty plans to return up to £200m to shareholders.

Another £85m will be used to cut the group's pension fund deficit. The sale, if approved by Balfour

Beatty shareholders, should be completed in the fourth quarter of 2014.

The rest of the sale’s proceeds will be retained by the group “to ensure a strong balance sheet and provide increased financial flexibility”.

Steve Marshall, executive chair of Balfour Beatty, said in a statement seen by RTM: “The sale of Parsons Brinckerhoff follows the recent revaluation of our investments portfolio, which underlines the potential of this division to create value internally and across the Group.”

He added: “In the UK we see the potential for margins to progressively recover to peer group levels.”

Gearing up for Eurasia Rail 2015

The fifth Eurasia Rail exhibition opens its doors on 5 March for a three-day rolling stock and infrastructure extravaganza. Managing executive Moris Revah explains what visitors can expect to see.

E

urasia Rail, the international rolling stock, infrastructure and logistics exhibition,

will take place between 5 and 7 March 2015 at Yeşilköy Istanbul Expo Center for the fifth time. The countdown has started for ‘the world’s third biggest rolling stock exhibition’, which will be organised with concurrent conferences and seminars by Türkel Fair Organization Inc.

In 2014, 17,000 professional visitors from 50 countries and 300 exhibitors from 25 countries met in Istanbul for the show, which has been developing and growing each year.

Turkish and international giants such as Kardemir, BM Makine, Hisarlar Makine, Emas Demir Çelik, Emre Ray, Uşaklıgil, Alstom,

Siemens, Durmazlar, Talgo, CAF, Astra Rail, Endüstri Teknik, VİTEL, Pandrol, Revenga, and CGC Makine have already booked their stands. The capacity of the exhibition is already 50% full.

Similar to its 2014 edition, Eurasia Rail 2015 will be the ‘one and only’ platform in the Eurasia region giving the opportunity to demonstrate railway and railway infrastructure products and its technologies.

In 2012, the Eurasia Rail exhibition achieved the status of ‘international exhibition’ from the UFI (International Union of Fairs). The national pavilion contracts have been renewed with Germany, the Czech Republic, Iran, and

the Republic of China, expanding the number of international exhibitors.

The official supporters of the exhibition are Republic of Turkey Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs, and Communications; TCDD (Turkish State Railways); TÜVASAŞ (Turkish Wagon Industry Inc.); TÜDEMSAŞ (Turkish Railway Machines Industry Inc.), and TÜLOMSAŞ (Turkish Locomotive and Engine Industry Inc.).
