The new Track Sprinter: precise and efficient Hugo Grauf explains more about Amberg Technologies’ unique new rail surveying system


F


ast, exact and cost-effi cient: Amberg Technologies, the Swiss specialist for railway and tunnel surveying, is expanding the well-tried rail surveying system GRP System FX with the new Amberg IMS 1000 and Amberg IMS 3000 system confi gurations. These confi gurations provide reliable and highly precise geometry information during the construction and maintenance of railway track systems – while achieving unparalleled productivity.


IMS 1000 and IMS 3000 measure the inner and outer rail geometry of ballast tracks and slab tracks using a new, high-performance sensor – the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU).


Measuring 4,000m of track per hour, the system’s performance is twice as high as devices available on the market today. It furthermore ensures that the track will be measured reliably


by providing a typical positional accuracy of ±1mm.


Marius Schäuble, product manager for rail at Amberg Technologies, said: “With this system we set a new standard for the speed for hand- pushed measurement carts while nevertheless achieving greatest accuracies.”


The main advantages for users are the greater productivity and accuracy, which reduces costs and enables effi cient track maintenance.


The new IMU technology replaces the tachymeter for measuring track geometry and therefore only requires a single measurement cart, operated by a single operator. Until now, up to four people were required for comparable track geometry surveys. The ‘Track Sprinter’ requires little logistical eff ort and can be used fl exibly and at short notice. The consequence


is that costs for track geometry surveying decrease by up to 90% compared to traditional methods.


Thanks to the IMS 1000 and IMS 3000, Amberg Technologies is further extending its leading position in developing highly performing measurement systems for rail construction and maintenance. “We continuously work on improving the technology and functionality in order to optimally meet the increased market expectations,” said Schäuble.


The premiere of the new IMS 1000 / IMS 3000 is at InnoTrans from 23 to 26 September in Berlin (Hall 25, Stand 201). The systems will be available for worldwide delivery as of February 2015.

Wheel systems meeting the broadest requirements

ochumer Verein Verkehrstechnik GmbH is a leading manufacturer of international rolling stock wheelset systems. It is the largest member of the Railway Systems business unit within the Georgmarienhütte Group, which includes over 40 medium-size internationally domiciled companies active mainly in


the


manufacture and downstream processing of metallurgical products.


Underpinned by more than 170 years of metallurgical expertise, up to 200,000 blanks for monobloc wheels and wheel centres are today shaped and heat-treated on high- performance forging presses and rolling lines in Bochum. These blanks are processed in-house,


or are sold either individually to other wheelset manufacturers and maintenance workshops or as wheelsets to rolling stock OEMs.


The markets for the broad range of largely bespoke products designed, developed and tested in-house span all fi ve continents. Such customised wheelset systems include diverse types of powered and unpowered wheelsets for high-speed trains, passenger services and special-purpose rail vehicles.


Various wheelsets with diff erent wheel tread diameters for block- and disk-brake-fi tted freight wagons and with axle loads up to 30 tonnes round off the portfolio.


Main products include not only wheelset systems for standard-gauge railways, but also resilient wheels for wide-ranging local transit applications. Starting from the fi rst Bo 54 type resilient wheel still in service today, the family has grown successfully to 10 wheel systems with specifi c characteristics meeting the broadest requirements.


These products from Bochum stand for quiet, effi cient and sustainable local passenger services, not least also through the use of materials specially developed and protected for wheel-on-rail contact.
