INNOTRANS PREVIEW XXXX

The innovation workshop with vision

At Boxmark in Slovenia, visions converge with innovations and merge to form customised product solutions. The research and development centre develops trend-setting leather interiors and exteriors, in addition to offering corresponding serial production. Marjan Trobis, managing director of Boxmark Slovenia, explains.

It

is our passion to bring out the best qualities and characteristics within each piece of

leather and to convert them into extraordinary quality.

This passion is visible in each and every product that leaves the Slovenian facility. From leather hides to leather-covered components – be it a prototype, a serial product or a customised workpiece – each creation is a symbiosis of masterful craftsmanship and industrial manufacturing technology.

Innovations need investments

As an international supplier of complete solutions, Boxmark, with its research and development centre, has for decades been playing a crucial role in the automotive industry when it comes to developing and producing automotive interiors.

Concrete results and

the considerable investments made illustrate the particular signifi cance that research and development is awarded at Boxmark. Due to the increased demand from the airline, shipping, railway and furniture industries, it had become necessary to expand the Slovenian facility.

Apart from the expansion of the production areas and a modernisation of the machinery, numerous new technical installations were acquired. These include, for example, 3D scanners and state-of-the-art computing systems that allow a virtual development of prototypes, as well as CNC-controlled machines, band saws and milling machines. As a technology leader and on the basis of its existing know-how, Boxmark is also able to create foam models, perform foam reconstructions and add upholstery to existing seat systems and add-on components.

Alexander Mesaric, head of the Engineering Centre, explained: “Each and every customer requirement is unique and brings along its own challenges for which we need to fi nd timely and customised solutions. With our manufacturing facilities and machines, which were custom- made exclusively for us, we can fulfi l even unusual requirements reliably and on schedule. Together with scientifi c institutes, we are permanently working on new machines and processing technologies, in order to continue being one of the best.”

Desire for perfection

The desire for a perfect piece of uniqueness is the starting point for all development projects carried out by Boxmark. A quick understanding of a customer’s ideas, attention to detail and creativity, as well as highly-qualifi ed employees provide the basis for a reliable realisation of visions. The company tackles all kinds of diff erent challenges. Be it new leather seats for vehicles, sophisticated and well-designed furnishings for aircraft, ships and trains, trendy and stylish wall coverings or building constructions or classic seating furniture – the Slovenian competence centre produces all types of interiors.

Innovative trends – for the special travel feeling

At the Slovenian location, interior fi ttings are currently being developed and mass- produced for several railway operators. The steadily increasing number of railway travellers requires the adaptation of the railway interior to today’s demands and standards. In doing so, an ever-increasing importance is attached to individuality and innovation. In

addition to the exclusive ambience that leather creates in every interior, this material off ers extraordinarily good hygienic properties as well as unsurpassable easy care and resistance. With the leather innovations XLIGHT and XTREME, Boxmark is setting trends for the vehicle interior of the future and makes a valuable contribution to sustainability.

XLIGHT only weighs 600g/m² including lamination, and reduces the total weight of each train. In this way, energy can be saved, and pollutant emissions as well as costs can be reduced. XTREME wins over with its above- average life, high abrasion resistance and excellent tensile, stretching and tear properties.

Furthermore, this leather is antibacterial, antimicrobial,

resistant to disinfectants,

resistant to sweat and urine, is water, oil, alcohol and dirt repellent, is lightfast, UV- resistant as well as resistant to mould, chlorine water, seawater, sun-tan oil and mosquito repellents.

XLIGHT and XTREME fulfi l all international standards and are also available combined in a leather product. These leather innovations are applicable to all interior components.

Today’s interior does not only have to fulfi l functional but also design-oriented demands. Whether smooth, perforated or embossed, embroidered, printed or laser engraved, provided with contrasting or decorative stitching, Boxmark off ers the full range of leather refi ning and processing for prototypes as well as for serial products.
