Nickelodeon Land Madrid W

Europe’s latest Nickelodeon- New kids’ area brings colour to Parque de Atracciones ”

branded children’s land has opened, transforming a corner of Parque de

Atracciones de Madrid into a riot of colour and IP-based fun featuring characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

e decided to use the Nickelodeon brand because we did a survey with our guests asking what characters they would like to meet in the park,” reveals Diego Gracia, general manager for Parques de Atracciones and sister attraction Teleférico de Madrid. “The results were mainly SpongeBob and Dora. These characters are the most popular of Nickelodeon in Spain.” For parent company Parques Reunidos, whose global headquarters are based within the park, no introduction to Nickelodeon was necessary. The group already enjoys a good relationship with the American-based rights holder thanks the licence it holds for Nick Land at Movie Park in Germany, which was Europe’s first Nickelodeon-theme when it opened in 2007 (followed by Nickelodeon Land at England’s Blackpool Pleasure Beach in 2011).

Seven new attractions Located directly to the left of Parque de Atracciones’ Batán gate (used by guests arriving by the Metro), this latest Nickelodeon Land features seven new rides by various Italian manufacturers. The line-up includes Magneto de Jimmy Neutron (Zamperla family tower ride), Los Globos Locos (Zamperla balloon ride), Cazamedusas de Patricio (Zamperla tea cups), La Aventura de Dora (Preston & Barbieri car ride), Coches de Choque Rugrats (SBF mini bumper cars) and Las Tortugas Ninja (by Sela), a driving school attraction themed by TAA Industries, which did a very similar attraction last summer for Movie Park Germany.

Three existing rides were rethemed to fit in with the new look area, namely Padrinos Voladores (Zamperla suspended plane coaster), Al Bosque con Diego (Zamperla Flying Bus) and the Nickelodeon Express elevated train ride, now with a bright orange engine and station.

Additional Nickelodeon Land features, all new for 2014, include the Fuente water play area, a fresh- looking restaurant with a vivid green and silver interior and of course the Nickelodeon Shop. But what about SpongeBob? Families can meet and greet him inside his own pineapple-shaped house, Casa de Bob Esponja.
