ix Flags Great Adventure, Jackson, New Jersey, has unveiled Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom – the world’s tallest and fastest drop ride, built inside the world’s tallest rollercoaster. How’s that for superlatives? From Intamin, Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom stands 41 storeys tall – or 415ft (126m). Its three in-line ride paths are accommodated within the signature n-shaped hump of Kingda Ka, the 45- storey monster that ranks as the world’s tallest and until just a few years ago fastest coaster (also by Intamin).
While anxious riders buckle into their floorless
seats, Kingda Ka’s trains launch right toward them at speeds of up to 128 mph (206 kmh). Passengers are then hoisted into the sky and then plummeted back to Earth at speeds of up to 90 miles per hour (145 kph). The trio of eight-person gondolas rise to the top of the tower in approximately 30 seconds. Riders are paused for a few moments, allowing them to catch a glimpse of the skyscrapers in 52 miles away (84 km) in Philadelphia before gravity plunges them back to ground level in less than 10 seconds. Zumanjaro’s arrival follows the introduction in 2011 of Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom
must-do list,” declares John Fitzgerald, park president at Six Flags Great Adventure. “It’s precisely the type of world-class, record-breaking attraction that our guests have come to expect from Great Adventure.”

African influence
The name Zumanjaro was inspired by the African influences of Six Flags Great Adventure’s Safari Off Road Adventure, which takes guests on an exhilarating, interactive and up-close journey that features 1,200 animals from six continents including elephants, rhinos, tigers, giraffes, lions, bison, kangaroos and more.
