One of the media scenes featured in Hogwarts Express

combined with Island of Adventure’s Spider-Man dark ride, and then laying a 3D Harry Potter movie on top. Full of action. It is based on the moment from the Harry Potter films where Harry, Ron and Hermione break into Gringotts bank to retrieve a magical object that will help defeat Lord Voldemort. Audiences have seen the action on screen, and now they get to be part of it. Beginning their experience, they will confront the 60ft, fire- breathing dragon atop Gringotts Wizarding Bank. They will pass through the marble hall where the goblins are hard at work, race through a labyrinth of underground vaults, encounter the villainous death eater Bellatrix Lestrange as she attempts to send them to their doom, and come face to face with He Who Must Not Be Named.

New type of ride “Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts will change the way you think about theme park attractions,” predicts Mark Woodbury, president of Universal Creative. “We’ve created an entirely new type of ride that propels guests into the story like never before, and guests will remember it long after their visit to Diagon Alley.” “Our guests are enjoying Escape from Gringotts because they get to step into that incredible environment,” adds Pacitti. “Along the way they encounter trolls, dragons and other evil force while helping Harry, Ron and Hermione on their mission. The bank itself is stunning. The goblins are wonderfully and appropriately intimidating, and the adventure through the bowels of Gringotts is an experience that should not be missed.”

Further entertainment is provided in the form of two stage shows, The Tales of Beedle the Bard and The Singing Sorceress: Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees. Of equal if not greater importance to the Diagon Alley experience are the retail offerings. “Let’s not forget that Diagon Alley is the major shopping hub in the fiction,” Pacitti reminds us. “Our guests get to walk the same streets and frequent the same shops as Harry, Ron and Hermione. You get to live the fiction right down to exchanging Muggle dollars for wizarding money.”

Of all the merchandise, food, and drink available,

Pacitti tells us that, “Butterbeer ice cream was probably the most anticipated item once it was announced and it does not disappoint. Wands are also a must-have now that guests have the ability to cast various spells throughout both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade.” The impact Diagon Alley has had on attendance at Universal Studios and sales of two-park passes has been immediate. “The excitement and anticipation from our guests as well as Harry Potter fans is seen every day as they enter Diagon Alley for the first time,” Pacitti concludes. Just don’t forget those Muggle dollars – you might need them.
