Festival of sport targeting runners and cyclists alike


New multi-sport event aims to introduce people to new sports, from running to endurance MTBing By Jonathon Harker


THE NUCLEUS is a brand new ‘Festival of Sport’ from organiser Just Racing UK, taking place in June 2014. Mixing running events, triathlons, cyclosportives and endurance MTBing with food, music and entertainment, the Nucleus will run over three days in Northamptonshire. Appeal to a wide demographic and


encouraging attendees to try new sports is a central aim for the event. A Just Racing UK spokesperson told


BikeBiz: “Essentially, we want to create an accessible event that doesn’t narrow it down to one discipline, or one small group of people. “The weekend is designed to be open


to all ages, levels and abilities – and to be as much about families and novices as much as it is seasoned athletes and ‘weekend warrior’ folk. It is about encouraging people to give sports a go


that they mightn’t have done previously and opening them up to participation outside of their ‘comfort zone’. “We would love it if ‘road cyclists’ came along to the event and were encouraged to try out mountain biking for the first time, or ‘runners’ were able to try out their first triathlon, for example.”


The event is free for spectators and


visitors, who can enter the Nucleus and enjoy the various entertainment options on offer over the weekend. Just Racing UK added: “The event is designed to inspire those who are spectating and supporting as much as those who choose to race and compete.” The Nucleus will run over June 27th to 29th at Boughton House, Northamptonshire. multifunction headwear brand that carries over 200 designs and is stocked in over 1,500 stores across Europe. F specialises in lightweight baselayers and functional socks, sold through over 500 specialist retailers. Both H.A.D. and F are part of German clothing firm Pro Feet Functional Wear. Commenting on the new distribution

OUTDOOR INDUSTRY veteran Frank Hugelmeyer, president and CEO of the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) in the US, is to be a headline speaker at this year’s Conference and Annual General Meeting. In his address


Hugelmeyer is set to make a stark statement to the trade: “Many hold a romantic vision of an outdoor market gone by. But today’s customer is not tomorrow’s outdoor consumer and the demographics of America and the world have altered…permanently. The industry’s traditional definition of ‘outdoor’ is rapidly evolving and it will become very different as future consumers and cultures define it.” Hugelmeyer has been in the outdoor trade for 26 years and will speak alongside Tashi Sherpa from Sherpa Clothing.
