‘A SMALL DEVELOPER with big ambitions’, reads the welcome message on Supergiant’s website. True words, as the San Jose-based indie studio won a clutch of awards, including several game of the year accolades, for its 2011 role- playing game, Bastion. Since then, over two million copies of the game have been sold across desktop, console, mobile and steaming services. Its next title is Transistor
(pictured), an action RPG in which players wield a weapon of vast power in a futuristic city. Coming to PS4 and PC, creator Greg Kasavin promises a mix of action with strategic planning.
TABTALE
THE TALENTED TEAMat Israeli game and educational mobile app developer TabTale may not be a household name yet, but the studio is fast making an impact. Last year, its extensive catalogue of 240 gaming apps surpassed 220m downloads –a figure not to be sniffed at. Thanks to this success, the
developer raised $12 million in a Series B funding round headed by Qualcomm and Magma Ventures Partners. The studio’s total funding
now stands at $13.5m, and it plans to use the investment to acquire other games companies, as well as hire new staff for its children’s apps business.
