THIS YORKSHIRE-BASEDstart-up dubs itself a “backend-as-a-service” provider, helping devs to set up the platforms and infrastructures required by freemium mobile games developers. Having only launched last year,
the company will be pushing to secure new clients throughout 2014. It has already demonstrated what it can do via its partnership with Time Machine Games and the launch of rhythm-action puzzler Beat Breakers (pictured). GameSparks wants to help
developers make their games fully cross-platform, with its services compatible with iOS, Android, Windows, Unity, Marmalade and Facebook.
GOOGLE
THE INTERNET POWERHOUSE may still be best-known for its search engine, but Google has a strong presence in the video games business too. The Google Play marketplace
that provides Android users with smartphone and tablet games continues to grow – in fact, it racked up 25 per cent more downloads than Apple’s App Store in Q3 2013. Google has also acquired
DeepMind Technologies, an AI specialist with a hand in games, earlier this year. And Google Glass (pictured), the poster child for wearable tech, is still in the works, with games no doubt a key pillar to its appeal.
