develop 100 BLACK TUSK STUDIOS
ORIGINALLY KNOWN AS Microsoft Studios Vancouver, Black Tusk received a new name and direction in 2012. Rather than focusing on free-to-play, the studio is now dedicated to triple-A blockbusters. Little has been seen of Black
Tusk’s work on a mysterious new IP, but the studio grabbed headlines in January as it took over development duties for the Gears of War franchise after Microsoft acquired the rights from Epic Games. Work is only just beginning
on the new Gears – Black Tusk is still hiring for a few key positions – but expect to learn more about this studio throughout 2014.

BOHEMIA INTERACTIVE
THE ARMA DEVELOPER is one of the pioneering firms making use of Steam’s Early Access system to lay the foundation for their next best-seller. The prime example is the standalone edition of open-world zombie shooter DayZ (pictured), which has already sold more than 1m copies through Early Access. Work on DayZwill continue
throughout the year, hopefully with a finished version going live in the next 12 months. The studio is also working on another Early Access title Take On Mars, a space exploration sim that went live in August. And let’s not forget new additions to Arma III.
