THIS UK INDIE is hard at work on its first title, retro-styled sci-fi adventure Starbound (pictured). The game’s key selling point
is that its universe is a procedurally generated sandbox, meaning players can explore different planets at their own pace on their hunt for new weapons, armour and more. Chucklefish claims this procedural generation will ensure the universe is endless. The game entered beta testing just before Christmas so expect a full release this year. The studio is also hiring for a
secret new second project, as well as expanding its publishing operations through 2014.

ONE OF THE most notable success stories in the realm of crowdfunding, Chris Roberts’ Cloud Imperium Games has raised more than $37m for its space exploration game Star Citizen (pictured) – and $4m of that was in the last two months. While it isn’t due for release
until 2015, the studio will be inviting backers to test alpha versions of different gameplay aspects, such as dogfighting, the single-player campaign and planet-based social elements. And the Robert Space
Industries site is continuing to accept donations, with more star systems and spaceships added as funding reaches new heights.
