Deputy Chief Operating Officer SUBWAY OPERATIONS

This role is a unique opportunity for a champion of modern subway practices to inspire, motivate and engage staff in delivering excellence at all times. Guided by a new and ambitious Corporate Plan, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has embarked on a 5-year journey to transform and modernize North America’s third largest transit system into a transit system that makes Toronto proud. As Deputy COO, you will be part of the senior team that will help the TTC realize its mission “to provide a reliable, efficient and integrated bus, streetcar and subway system that draws its high standards of customer care from our rich traditions of safety, service and courtesy.”


As Deputy Chief Operating Officer, you will ensure a high level of performance, safety and customer service for all departments within your portfolio: Rail Cars and Shops, Rail Infrastructure and Subway/SRT Transportation. Along with overseeing the provision of appropriate repair, maintenance and quality control for subway, SRT and streetcar vehicles, equipment, signals and communications, and track, structure and tunnels, you will be accountable for capital and operating budget development, collective bargaining proposals, and reporting of financial and performance results. In touch with the


latest developments in the industry, such as the introduction of one- person operation, migration to automatic train control, and planning of large-scale operational events, you will act as a resource for the TTC, providing timely advice, guidance and recommendations to senior management and the Board.


Both a leader and a manager of change, intimately familiar with the delivery and management of major rail-based transportation systems, you have a proven track record of success as a senior manager, ideally in a unionized environment. Your broad knowledge of business administration, fiscal and human relations practices, as well as applicable HR policies and safety, employment and human rights legislation and regulations, is backed by a degree in Business Management/Administration or extensive relevant experience. This will encompass extensive expertise in the field of subway operations and related technical and operational issues, rules and procedures, combined with progressively responsible managerial experience in infrastructure management.
