Business profile

first level 2 installation ever to include equipments such as railway crossing barriers. With an ERTMS Level 2 system the engine driver receives all the basic information via the radio system GSM-R. The driver information is sent from a control centre in Banverket’s IP network, which is connected to the control and monitoring devices along the railway. The equipment along the trackside was linked to Banverket’s IP network via pre-existing twisted pair copper cables and the SHDSL technology deployed in the DDW-225 allows data to be sent at a maximum speed of up to 5.7 Mbit/s at shorter distances and up to 15 km at lower speeds. In this installation however, network safety and accuracy was prioritised before high bandwidth. A stabile distance/noise level was achieved at 2.3 Mbit/s over distances from 2 to 7 km.

The requirements for high security

called for a redundant network solution, which is why the Swedish National Rail Administration made two individual networks which connect to a double set of control equipment. The different networks are completely separated and connected to the backbone network on separate routers. Even if one network stops working, full access to the entire route can be achieved. In addition to the security of the redundant network, the DDW-225 comes with a number of software features that allow configurations for optimal control. VLAN, QoS, SNMP, SSH, and expanded diagnostics were part of the requirements from the Rail Administration. DDW-225 is a robust ethernet extender with EN 50121-4-approval for apparatus in trackside applications. The unit is designed for harsh environments and can operate in an extended temperature range (-40°C to +70°C). The DDW-225 has contributed to significant
