he engcon tiltrotator has always been the widely accepted tiltrotator of choice within the rail industry, and due to its flexibility not only improves productivity and lowers costs, it also allows the excavator to take on a variety of other tasks.


The ability to easily lift, move and locate rails, posts, signs, and gantries not only decreases installation times, but with a reduced need for manual intervention, can also significantly reduce labour costs. In turn, lower numbers of people working around a machine contributes to a safer working environment. This is further enhanced because the excavator has little or no need to move when working, which also reduces fuel consumption and general wear and tear on the machine. Where fitted with a small drill attachment for example, the tiltrotator allows the drilling of holes in difficult to reach rock faces high on the sides of embankments. As this is undertaken from a track-based machine, the need for people to physically undertake the drilling is removed, so reducing working times and labour costs as well as improving health and safety on site.


Specialist applications


The engcon tiltrotator is the perfect tool for specialist applications, including laying sleepers as well as general excavation and sloping work. For instance, a tiltrotator allows offset digging – working alongside an excavator with the bucket facing in the same direction as the


machine. Obstructions are that much easier to work around and narrow, confined spaces present far less of a problem. In addition, because of the high levels of precision it offers the operator, the need for manual work with spades and rakes is considerably reduced. As a company, JCC Engcon Group has always been at the cutting edge of tiltrotator technology over the past eight years – for example it was the first tiltrotator company to introduce the eng- loc twin lock system on its tiltrotators. Now, with the added range of new technology, this continuous advancement pushes the boundaries even further.

The GR20RR has a sturdy construction specifically developed for the tough environments that grabs are exposed to on the railways, which often involves pulling and lifting heavy pieces of rails and sleepers. The new GR20RR has allowed contractors to further streamline their work. ‘It’s strong and can take a lot of strain,’


said Frank Hill. ‘As the grab is angled downwards, it’s also significantly easier to work with when you’re sitting on the track in the excavator.’ The GR20RR has a large grab width of 82 mm and well-protected cylinders. It is suitable for engcon’s EC15B, EC219 and EC226 tiltrotators.


Q-Safe - The world’s safest quick hitch Engcon is now presenting a newly- developed quick hitch for excavators - Q-Safe - featuring a threefold safety system. Q-Safe is part of engcon’s new drive and concept ‘Non-accident generation’ in which safety awareness hallmarks the whole product range. ‘Profitability goes hand-in-hand with safe workplaces, where they are both dependent on each other,’ said Hill. By way of example Hill indicated that, since 2002, engcon has also participated in safety discussions concerning safe workplaces in the UK, which has provided the company with extensive experience of safety-centric sectors such as railway contracting.
