Cathay re-opens flagship lounge

Cathay Pacific Airways has re-opened its flagship First Class Lounge in Hong Kong Airport, after a second stage renovation. The Wing comprises the First and Business lounges (the latter was updated last year). Among the changes is an upgrade to The Haven dining area of the First lounge, which has doubled its capacity and features an expanded buffet counter and a reinvented à la carte menu, complemented by wine pairings. Outside The Haven is a new full-service bar with a view of the airport runway and the new Champagne Bar.

Bathroom facilities have been upgraded. Each of the five Cabanas now features a spacious shower, a full-sized bath and a day bed. There are also 12 luxury shower suites. The Wing’s design has incorporated some environmental features. Sustainable bamboo and eucalyptus are utilised throughout. www.cathaypacific.com

Air Canada to add Premium Economy

Air Canada has announced it will add a Premium Economy cabin to international flights, filling in the gap between its Economy and Executive First options. The modernisation programme is part of a wider overhaul of its widebody fleet, which includes the addition of five new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. It will first take effect on July 11 this year on Air Canada’s Montreal-Paris flights, and will be rolled out across the fleet as new aircraft are delivered. Premium Economy onboard Air Canada will feature a range of benefits, including larger seats with more recline and seven inches more legroom than Economy, a premium meal service and complimentary bar service and priority check-in and baggage delivery at the airport. The new Premium Economy cabin will be the outer part of a 2-4-2 configuration, meaning passengers are never more than one seat from the aisle.

Alpha LSG caters Aeromexico

Alpha LSG now supplies meals on Aeromexico’s new Heathrow to Mexico City route, its first direct service between the two countries. The agreement was also the first new contract to be secured by Alpha LSG Ltd since it launched in October – a UK-only, 50/50 joint venture created by airline catering specialists, Alpha Flight Group and LSG Sky Chefs. Alpha LSG Ltd will supply three meal sittings for each flight, providing the carrier with food and beverages.

Andrea Autelitano, Alpha LSG’s Heathrow business director said: “This is the first of what we believe will be many contract wins for our dynamic new business. Aeromexico’s decision to appoint Alpha LSG Ltd reflects the very positive response we’ve received from the airline industry since our launch.” www.alphalsg.co.uk
