Emirates’ monsters West is best on rails Qantas tops the quaffs
Emirates has added to its collection of monster-themed ‘fly with me’ toys for children, with four new characters. Aimed at pre-school children, the new monster toys will come in two categories; Blanket Buddies - plush characters wrapped around soft polar fleece blankets and Seat Belt Critters - little toys worn around a seat belt to encourage safety. The monsters, Worzel, Mundy, Grumpel and Furgus each have their own personality traits and hobbies and join four existing characters. All Emirates flights offer the monster toys for pre-schoolers, whilst older children get travel- inspired products co-designed with brand Quiksilver, on flights over five hours. Young travellers also enjoy the existing range of products including the E-kids magazine, colour pencils, Emirates rucksacks and cooler bags, children’s eyeshades and the Dr. Seuss books. The new toys join an updated IFE system (ice) and dedicated kids’ onboard menu.

Top chef Mitch Tonks is working with First Great Western’s catering team and Rail Gourmet’s supply team to create a West Country menu. Customers on the UK’s only remaining silver service train restaurants will sample red gurnard harvested from the Devon coast and fillet steak from Somerset, cooked on board by skilled chefs. Mitch Tonks is an award-winning food writer, restaurateur and fishmonger. He has three restaurants and a takeaway, RockFish Grill & Seafood Market in Bristol and the Seahorse and RockFish Seafood and Chips in Dartmouth. Mitch said: “Living in Devon I am surrounded by some of the best ingredients in the world and I’m committed to supporting seasonal food in the South West. Developing this menu has been great fun and a privilege.”

Qantas has taken home the greatest number of accolades at the annual Cellars in the Sky wine awards, held this February.
The Australian airline took home Best Overall Wine Cellar and Best Presented First Class Wine List. In the individual wine categories Qantas shared first place in Best First Class Sparkling for its Champagne Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2000 and shared first place in Best Business Class Sparkling for Champagne Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve NV.
Qantas’ Alison Webster said: “We pride ourselves on developing a selection of wines, from the latest wines made by boutique winemakers to the iconic drops that form the very base of Australia’s great wine.” Qantas invests over $19 million dollars in the Australian Wine industry every year through the Qantas Wine Program. More than 250 different wines are chosen for Qantas each year from more than 150 different producers.
