George Economou

George Economou is a lawyer with over 45 years’ practice experience.

George is an English barrister (a tenant of Quadrant Chambers, London) and an advocate of the Supreme Court of Greece. Until recently, he was also an advocate of the Supreme Court of Cyprus.

George has extensive experience of all aspects of shipping and ship finance, construction and engineering and is involved in arbitration in England, Greece and Cyprus. His expertise in international company law, tax planning, corporate

restructuring, wealth management and trusts is second-to-none.

George is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Chartered Arbitrator and on the panel of arbitrators and experts of a large number of arbitral and ADR bodies; also a qualified dispute resolver and a member of the Academy of Experts.

George is a contributor to international publications on shipping, tax planning, dispute resolution, international investments and finance and a speaker at international gatherings.

• Arranging for a successful listing of a major shipping group on NASDAQ.

• Sale of a very large, by Greek standards, real property in Crete for the construction of a major hotel unit and approx. 700 holiday houses.

• Presiding arbitrator in ten high profile arbitrations concerning major road constructions between the Greek State and Concessionaire.

• Advising major shipowners and banks on shipping and ship finance.

• Acquisition of a major Hotel chain in Rhodes and Crete.

• Arranging for a real estate Fund with activities in Greece, Cyprus and Romania to be listed on AIM.

• Preparing due diligence for the acquisition of the University of Nicosia.

• Legal due diligence on behalf of Buyers for the purchase of a major electricity provided in Greece.

• Legal due diligence for the Greek branch of Marfin Egnatia Bank on behalf of strategic investor in the Bank (increase of capital).
