Since its establishment in 1985, the firm of AZIM TUNKU FARIK & WONG has grown steadily and evolved into a multi disciplinary practice. It has still retained its core specialisation of insurance law which was the area of specialisation of its founding partners.

The lawyers in the firm which comprise of 10 Partners and 25 Senior Associates & Associates have experience in most areas of law. The practice has expanded to also include divisions specialising in corporate law, securities, unit trusts, property development, project financing, cross border joint ventures/investments and intellectual property.

However, the firm has had a deliberate policy of specialising in Insurance Law which includes Reinsurance, Takaful (Islamic insurance) and Re-takaful

The insurance team is headed by Tunku Farik who has vast experience of over 24 years in insurance litigation and arbitration, which has included international arbitration between insurer and reinsurer. Tunku Farik has appeared as lead counsel at the Court of Appeal and Federal Court level in Malaysia, many of which are landmark cases that have been documented in Malaysian law reports. Due to the liberalisation of the Malaysian financial sector which includes insurance, more licenses can be expected to be issued by the central Bank to foreign players especially in takaful (Islamic insurance). Foreigners will also be allowed to own up to 70% (from the previous 49%) of equity in insurance companies and takaful operators. The firm having the benefit of insurance industry experience and a corporate department is able to help in the due diligence and draw up any agreements that may involve a foreign partner in a Malaysian insurance company.
